Poly or Boardwalk for two adults?

So my wife, kids and I just got back from a wonderful 9 day trip at WDW spent at AKL and WL, but she and I weren't able to do some of the things we wanted to -- namely some nicer restaurants, because our 3 and 5 y/o's were just too tired. With some quick planning we've decided to return just the two of us for a 4 night trip in July and narrowed it down between the Boardwalk and Poly. We'd stay in a standard/garden view room and can get the AP discount. Initially we booked the Boardwalk, but after deciding we'd be eating at Narcoosee's and California Grill, coupled with the fact that EPCOT closes at 9pm every night we're there, while MK stays open until 2am two of the nights, we've decided to switch to the Poly. We love the laid back atmosphere of the Beach Club and its close proximity to EPCOT, which is why we initially chose the Boardwalk, but it doesn't seem like we'd be taking advantage of that proximity as much since EPCOT and MGM (oops DHS) close relatively early. Did we make the right decision?

Since you'll be eating at Narcoosee's and California Grill and taking advantage of late nights at MK, I'd say yes, that the Poly is the right choice.

Otherwise, I prefer Beach Club / Epcot Resort area.

It sure sounds like you made the right choice. Have a great time.

Those are my two favorite resorts, with a slight edge to The Boardwalk. However if my plans matched yours, I would switch to the Poly too. It fits your schedule much better, and is just as amazing of a resort.

So, without reading your full post I came in here to say Boardwalk. Perfect resort for a couple without kids. But....after reading your reasoning for the switch to Poly makes sense. You cannot beat the convenience on the Monorail for the way your itinerary is looking!

You obviously can't go wrong with either of these fabulous resort choices...so it's gotta come down to convenience and what will make your trip as smooth as possible.

Enjoy, sounds like it's destined to be magical for you guys!

I say Poly, hands down. We always stay there -- you have the boat or monorail to MK, monorail to Contemp - CA Grill (always eat there), and it's a very short walk to the TTC to head over to EPCOT.

The bar area in the lobby is great, you can use the monorail to bar hop to Mizner's if you want to listen to the band, and the quiet pool at the Poly is typically quiet too :)

Boardwalk hands down!

DH and I were there last August for our anniversary, got a Boardwalk view studio and had a wodnerful time. Epcot may close at 9 BUT you have all the activities on the Boardwalk as well as several nice lounges and Jellyrolls! Jellyrolls alone is worth staying there, we have a blast there.

We did have reservations at GF at Victoria and Alberts and jsut took a cab.

I beleive its such a relaxing and romantic place to stay with so much to do you would really enjoy it

I think you'll be happy with your decision. With your dining reservations, and late hours at The Magic Kingdom, how can you go wrong? Plus, the atmosphere at The Polynesian is great for a couple on a getaway with no kids!

Have a great time!

Poly.

I'd like to someday stay at the Boardwalk, but until they get their transportation issues under control, I refuse to stay in the Epcot area again.

Issues?

Walk to EPCOT and DHS, bus to everything else.

Yeah - Bus with 4 other resorts, totaling 4,500 rooms to the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. No problem.

Epcot Resorts bus service is terrible. It's a shame, because the area is gorgeous. But there are no excuses for 5 resorts to be sharing 1 bus. Especially at the price tag of those resorts.

I would agree with the Epcot transportation. When we stayed at the Boardwalk we ended up taking the rental car everywhere because it was much easier.
