Points and Cash Reservation

I just have a few brief questions.

Can we book a 7 night stay, but choose to use points for some of the nights and cash for the others (and still have it as one reservation)? If so, do you just provide a credit card number at the time of booking? Also, does anyone know if the new online booking system allows for cash or is points only?

Thanks.

If you book the cash room through DVC Member Services, everything can be linked together and it will be one continuous stay. DVC occasionally offers a 25% discount off of rack rates. You'll have to ask if it's available for your resort and dates

If you book the cash stay through any other outlet (travel agent, Disney website, etc.), they cannot be linked. In that scenario you will have to check-in twice, have two sets of room keys and there's a chance you will be asked to switch rooms. This is the only way to take advantage of Disney's room discount offers (like the 30-40% discounts offered now) so you would have to weigh the pros and cons of going this route.

Cash reservations are not available via the DVC online booking system.

We have done just this for our trip in August. We have only done it to enable us to save a few points towards next years trip when there will be a grand gathering of 25 family all visiting WDW at the same time.
The free dining deal and staying in OKW made it very good, added to that Teppen Edo and T rex are back on this years restaurant list.

When we rang member services they told us that the 2 bookings could not be linked, but as long as we told check in on arrival we "should" be okay to stay in the same room for the entire vacation.
If we do have to move it will be a minor irritation, but we will just think about all the fantastic dinning we will be having on our "paid" part of the trip.

While I'm sure some people, who have broken up their trip in this way (or for other reasons, like a second half of the trip falls into a lesser expensive season, or free dining begins partly through a vacation), have had to move into a different room, I've never actually heard of it happening.

While I'm sure some people, who have broken up their trip in this way (or for other reasons, like a second half of the trip falls into a lesser expensive season, or free dining begins partly through a vacation), have had to move into a different room, I've never actually heard of it happening.

I'm sure the resort will make every effort to keep guests in the same room. But there is some danger of booking a different view or a lock off vs. dedicated for one leg of the trip or another.

For instance, all BoardWalk CRO reservations are in the Garden / Pool view. If you book standard or BW View on points and then cash through CRO, a room change will be necessary. Same sort of danger for a resort like OKW that now has two views for rooms near the Hospitality House and further from the HH.

And then there's the lock off / dedicated issue. For inventory purposes they have to track when a lock off or ded Two Bedroom is reserved. If you somehow end up with a lock off for one portion and dedicated for the other, a room change may be unavoidable.

I seem to remember reading about unanticipated moves a couple times over the years. Sort of an obscure thing, though, so hard telling how many times it's happened and people don't jump on the Internet to share their experiences.
