I don;t think there is any other PO CMs here, so I am hoping they get called before someone else tells them. But my manager just called to tell me before it hit the press that French Quarter side is closing. So I get reassigned, but they are still scrambling to get things organized!!!! Hopely a place I wanna go. if so YaY:D

Yeah I mean really, this can't be permanent can it? I mean, when has Disney ever closed one of their on-property hotels? I think I remember a while back a few years ago when they just temporarily closed the Coronado Springs resort (or was it the Caribbean Beach?) for something...:lookaroun

I don't think it is till summer but who knows. Now this is just gossip that I heard even before my manager told me. And honestly think it is way off, but it is disney right?? lol. Ihave heard they really want to get Pop Century open so it doesn;t sit there any longer. So the rumor going around was they were going to close the whole resort and open up Pop century. So basically like shifting occupancy level to somewhere else

But isn't "Dixie Landings/French Quarter" a moderate resort?
The new "Pop Century" would be a value type resort?
Considering the economic climate, brining on a value resort would probably make more sense than keeping open the more expensive resorts that weren't booking well enough.

that isn't what I said. It would just have "moderate resort" vacationers book at CB or CSR. thus filling those resorts up to better levels of occupancy. And anyone booked at FQ will be transfered over to riverside. Or they can choose to transfer over to the two other moderates.

Sorry about your AS Music experience.:(

I stayed at Movies 12/29-1/5 and Music 3/2-3/8 and had great bus service both times:D

its alright. the worst part was after standing on the bus for 15 minutes we had to walk from the stop all the way to the back of the resort. we would actually get out at AS sports because the temporary busstop they had set up was closer to our room! and that was still a 10 minute walk.

i usually stay at the moderate resorts now, fortunately i can afford it.

Hi!

I'm new here, so hello!

It kind of makes sense for them to temporarily close FQ, they do not have a full service restaraunt, and it is the smaller of all of the moderates.

From a business stand point, opening PC may be a good move, it would generate curiosity from long time Disney vets who hop between Value/Moderates. From an economy standpoint the current FQ employees could be transferred to PC and more employees hired to work in the food court at PC. Also, They don't even have to open up every room at PC and could still keep some of the buildings 'under construction' while the resort was opened on a test basis.

Disney is also preparing for it's busy summer season, maybe PC would generate more of a crowd for them than FQ would. Besides, a new resort sitting vacant will not last forever. I don't see that the building and contents are doing any good sitting stagnant. (That being said, they won't do any good having POFQ sitting vacant for an extended period).

I am a POR lover but would be curious to stay at PC. I have stayed at all 3 AS's as well.

I am sorry to hear that long time employees will get shuffled. Hopefully they will all get positions elsewhere with Disney.

HMMM--the Disney website won't let me book POFQ for Sept 8 or July 8. There's 2 questions I haven't seen before:

What is your home zip code?
Have you visited this section of this site since April 2, 2003?

(What's with that?? )

Wonder if you can book it over the phone.......

I've got reservations to stay at FQ for Memorial Day weekend. Do you think it will still be open then, or should I start looking for another resort to transfer too?:(

This just posted this on Deb's site:

"Port Orleans to undergo extensive renovations!

Port Orleans Resort will undergo an extensive room renovation that will take approximately 2 years to complete. The French Quarter rooms will be done first and the entire resort will be closed during this time. The rooms will get all new furniture, carpet, bathrooms and wall coverings.

Effective today (April 4) no reservations will be taken for the resort.

Disney will be contacting guests who currently have reservations at the French Quarter to move them to another moderate resort. More details as they become available."
