As Travis mentioned, that is indeed why I was there this weekend, as I have been the last six or seven years (I also go up in December to get in the holiday spirit. Aren't Annual Passes wonderful?).

Last year I got into Mannequins without a hitch. In fact, the last couple of years the area behind Mannequins and 8-Trax was set up as an outdoor bar to handle the overflow from both bars, which wasn't done this year for some reason.

Some real strange decision making going on.

I have never been to PI. I AM the parent back at the hotel watching my child swim in the pool. When she hits 21 in about 9 years then we can go to PI together. I'm with you guys, kids should not be in bars especially that late at night (when people have had time to drink a few).

Hello everyone - Whenever you are at the theme parks, no matter where you go, there are going to be kids around. If you want a true night club and bar experience in Orlando, you may want to try going downtown as the downtown scene here has really taken off over the last few years. The area around Church Street and Orange Avenue is where you want to go. For a bar atmosphere, go to Wall St Plaza(One-eyed Jacks, Slingapores) or Rythm & Flow. If you like the nightclub scene, go to Antigua on Orange Avenue. A few blocks away from Wall St plaza is Lake Eola, which is a nice lake to walk around during the day or night. On the other side of Lake Eola from downtown is Thorton Park, which has some good restaurants. The trendy bar and restaurant around there is Hue. More casual places to eat in Thorton Park that I recommend is Wildside (Bar-B-Q) and Dexters. In a couple of years Downtown Orlando will be getting it's own Movie Theatre on the corner of Church Street and Orange Ave. For more information about Orlando's local scene, I recommend checking out the following site:

Her daughter was screaming in the que and even when she got on.. she was fighting her mom as she (the mother) tried to get her buckled in.. yeah to say the least I was disgusted beyond belief.. I never really saw anything like this @ WDW but i'm SURE it happens all the time.. why dont parents let kids be KIDS!!! There is a reason there are kiddie lands!!!:brick:

A couple years back there was a couple with a very young child that wanted to go on Space Mountain. How young you ask?? Well, the kid was in one of those carriers thats like a backpack only its made to carry baby/toddler sized kids, and the kid is actually in the front I believe. AND THE GUY TRIED GETTING ON SPACE MOUNTAIN!! The CM's there were pretty shocked by it as you can imagine how stupid and careless that idea is. :hammer:

Hey there, Thanks for the suggestion, but when I go to Disney I almost NEVER venture off property usually duee to the fact that I havent rented a car. In addition, if I want to drink more than 1 drink, Id prefer to be on Disney property so I can hop on my bus and know I will arrive to my hotel safely and without getting arrested for DUI/DWI!!! I know I could take a cab, but why?? This is a nightclub area. Kids just dont belong there at all. There may be behavior going on that you may not want your child to see. You may want to indulge and may not be at the top of your game to properly supervise your child. In any event, I think this area should be segregated the way it always had been in the past. There are plenty of child friendly and appropriate areas in the Downtown Disney area. Some are very nice restaurants where a parent may certainly have a drink or two, but it wouldnt qualify as a nightclub type of atmosphere.
As far as not forcing your kid on a ride, but gently encouraging, Good for you!!!! Someday your child will thank you for it as I have done with my parents. They never forced me onto anythingg and now as an adult, I can handle just about anything with no issue!! Thanks, Mom & Dad!!! Belle

My intentions are not to defend irresponible parents but before we continue the bash fest, remember that not everybody at WDW reads these boards. Most are not as well informed as most of you are. As a matter of fact, suprisingly, most people I talk to who are going or who have gone are clueless and have no idea other than one thing. It's Disney World. They have the idea that Disney is synonomous to children and when they see a park or property or area designated as Disney, they assume that it is kid friendly. I know, I know, common sense says a bar is not the place for kids. Could not agree more. But a lot of people think because it's a Disney bar, that they can bring the youngsters along. Not that its right but don't act so surprised. For some, their trip could be a once in a lifetime trip. They may only have a few days to experience what should take weeks. Although not right, they try to cram all they can even if it means keeping the little ones up late. Again, I'm not defending, just adding another side. And no, my kids have never nor will they ever see the inside of a bar or nightclub until they are old enough to go by themselves. Could it be that some of you are a little embarassed that these kids are better dancers?? hehe sorry :hammer:

Hey Brich, First off welcome to the Boards!!! I agree with your observations. I kinda think that maybe Disney should do a better job of informing parents what PI is and, more importantly, is not!!!! And as far as the kids being a better dancer than me......PROBABLY!!!!  Belle

Why thank you Bell... So nice to be greeted by such an inspiring, infectous smile :D
Only been to PI once. I'm a parent now, no, not an old timer but since the kids, I just don't do those places anymore. So yes, maybe it's Disney's fault for letting kids in there after a certain time. My 5 year old can't go on rides because he is literally a hair to short. And yet he would be able to go into an area of intoxicated adults? Again, some parents don't get it. Disney needs to help them out a bit. You must be this tall to ride, you must be this old to get in... Isn't there a law??? Some people/parents need these things spelled out, especially on vacation and in WDW.

Why thank you Brich!! I certainly do try!!! I agree with you, the majority of my friends who are parents arent into the club thing anymore just due to other responsibilities. I am not even into in a major way, due to my advanced age!!!!  That and the fact that by the time I get done demolishing the parks, I Am too tired to go except on the rare occasion to meet a board member ( Thanks Pippa!!!) or something like that. I should go out more to be more social, maybe I will get around to finding myself a cute Beast!!! In the meanwhile, I think Disney should put up signs advising parents what they will find in that area. Not that that would stop certain people from bringing the kids anyhow....:hammer: :hammer: Belle

With all due respect, the whole point of this was that before this experiment, PI was a closed off area for adults only once the sun went down, and that this single, childless guy preferred it that way.

I wasn't trying to bash anyone. Unless you bring your kids inside a bar, then you deserve to be bashed.

GaryT977, I wasn't singling you out. As a matter of fact, I don't think I mentioned you once in my post. Sorry you took offense. My point was only that not everybody there with kids understands the environment if Disney is allowing parents to bring kids in. I'm sorry my point was lost on you. I'll slow it down next time.
Unless you bring your kids inside a bar, then you deserve to be bashed.
From this response, it appears that your "single, childless guy" behavior is a big reason kids shouldn't be subjected to this environment. And finally my fine Disney board friend, your telling me you'll bash me unless I bring my kids into a bar? I think we all just found out why you may be single and we may all be thanking someone that your childless...

Hey Brich, The way I understood Gary's post was the exact opposite of what you thought!!! I understood it to mean that he agreed that children have no place in a bar atmosphere and that parents who do bring their children into this type of environment do deserve to be critisized. Gary am I correct in my assumption?? Belle

Well then my appologies to GaryT977 if you're correct Belle. A change in punctuation may have made it more clear for me.
"I wasn't trying to bash anyone unless you bring your kids inside a bar, then you deserve to be bashed." would have made more sense. "I wasn't trying to bash anyone. Unless you bring your kids inside a bar, then you deserve to be bashed." tells me another thing. Sorry if I got to defensive, which I guess I did. Belle's smile cooled me down. Thanks Belle... and sorry GaryT977 if there was a misunderstanding...:brick:

Sorry for the confusion. I'll try to be more clear. This new PI experiment took a formally 'adults only' environment and opened it up to the general public, which allows irresponsible parents to bring children into drinking establishments.

I may indeed be one of the reasons you wouldn't want to bring a child into a bar, which is fine with me. Suppose a child wanders onto the dance floor in 8-Trax and gets bumped head-first into a metal pole?

I regret using the word 'bash'. It seems to be like using the 'n' word, so I'll just refrain in future.

All clear? :animwink:
