Pleasure Island Test

I've decided not to do a trip report this year, as I wouldn't be able to write it properly without getting deeply personal.

However, I have to comment on the new entry procedure that's being tested at PI.

It freaking sucks!

It used to be, you walked up to the entrance, put your ticket through the machine and showed your ID. You were then free to go from bar to bar without restriction.

Now, you have to show your ticket AND ID at each club. It made going from club to club extremely difficult.

As an example, the line for Mannequins on Thursday, June 3rd at 9pm was all the way up to 8-Trax, and did not diminish the entire night. I never made it inside.

The only good thing was that I spent most of the night at the Adventurers Club instead, and I'm a total AC convert now.

All the CM's I talked to said everyone was complaining about this system, but they weren't sure whether it would be permanent or not.

My other major beef was seeing children at PI at midnight. Children don't belong in bars people!

Hey Gary I cant agree with you more, but when people go on vacation they also seem to leave their minds at home!!!!!! And in most cases, same said children are wailing because they are tired and want to go to bed!!! Hello People!!! Catch a clue!!! Belle

I went on Dinosaur, and this lady behind me was dragging her poor kid on. She tried to get me to tell him that it wasn't a scary ride, and I whispered to her that it was indeed a very intense ride.

The kid was yelling and crying all the way through the attraction. Scared him silly. I felt so sorry for him, and so freaking angry at his mom.

Yeah..I think Thursdays are unofficially gay nights at Mannequins anyway...plus with Gay Days last week no one could probably get in.

That really stinks about the new way they do things over there. I haven't been there for a long time...since 1999 and back then we just showed the ticket and were good to go. Do you really have to show the ticket AND ID at EACH club now?

They should scan a ticket at the front for those people who want to go to clubs, and give the people who scan tickets wristbands. This would make things go a lot quicker. Then people who want to walk can walk and people who want to get in to the clubs don't have to have a ticket checked at every door.

um yeah that is why Gary was there, I was there Thursday around that time as well and the line was past 8trax in fact. I did get in quick even though the line was out the wazoo, and they did not even scan my friends tickets so they can use it some other time.

you know I understand Disney's desire to compete with Citywalk and stuff, but that was the whole cache about PI. Walk on and you aer in an adult playland!!! I dont think the plan is a good one and should be scrapped.
Het Gary I Agree with you!!! People seem not to know their kids at all. Forcing them on the ride will certainly not guarantee the enjoyment to be had by the kid, the parent or by me for that matter as this kid is going to be crying the whole way through!!!! When the kid is ready he/she will go. Until then stop with the mentality that " I spent all this money and you are going to enjoy it...." Here is a wake up call. No your kid wont enjoy it and will probably be more upset for being forced. Belle

I agree with you Belle 100%. That's why I have always said that children shouldn't go to WDW until they are 18 years of age.

Belle.. I agree with you 100%!!! 2 weeks ago I was at a family owned amusement park up here in PA (Knoebels for any locals) and this woman took her year old daughter on this roller coaster... and it was a really big one (Twister==reallly fast wooden coaster). Her daughter was screaming in the que and even when she got on.. she was fighting her mom as she (the mother) tried to get her buckled in.. yeah to say the least I was disgusted beyond belief.. I never really saw anything like this @ WDW but i'm SURE it happens all the time.. why dont parents let kids be KIDS!!! There is a reason there are kiddie lands!!!:brick:

I've talked to several CM and read plenty about the new PI thing and it is indeed just for this summer to see how it goes. Complain to Disney (or Eisner and then complain about him as well  ) and let them know you don't like their new system.

The kid situation at PI has bothered me for years. I really don't need to watch to little boys doing their acrobatics on the floor at 8-trax at midnight, while their parents order drinks. I have greatly reduced the amount of time I spend at PI as a result.

I witnessed a similar thing on Mission Space. A mother had forced her young daughter onto the ride, the poor child was so sacred she could not even cry. I got the sense she wanted too, but was just too scared.

I really wonder what these people are thinking. A friend of mine had gone to PI two weeks back and he found the set up cool in terms of bars being outside and stuff like that. The fact that there were little kids being dragged through the streets, crying because it was WAY past their bedtimes and an inappropriate area for them as well. I understand that people want to go out at night, but then hire a babysitting service to watch your kids in an appropriate environment ( Your hotel room!) And if you are uncomfortable wth leaving your child with a babysitter then you have to be a parent and make the right choice to do what is best for your child over what you would do for your own pleasure!! I would never physicly FORCE my son on a ride, but we do try to con and bribe him. I do it so as to desensitize him to certain fears. If it don't kill him, it'll make him stronger.

But it's still HIS CHOICE.

Well Gary I'm glad that you have "discovered" the AC! I hope you witnessed Samantha Sterlings sponge bath and cabaret!!!
