Please fix the monorail!

There’s plenty of companies that make monorails

The design used on the WDW Monorail is owned by Alstom, it's propriatary. Not to mention nobody has made a monorail that would fit the beam size Disney uses in decades, because it's not the standard everyone adopted. In addition we're talking 12 trains here. No big manufacturer is going to swap out a whole production line for a totally bespoke design for such a small order without it being worth their while.

So yeah, any monorails being made will be totally bespoke with very little being taken from an existing design. This doesn't even take into account the fact that Disneys monorails have to be a very specific shape and size to fit through the contemporary, and no, changing the contemporary isn't a simple thing either due to it being part of the fabric of the building, with structural supports running along either side of that entrance/exit point.

We all want new monorails but its far more costly and complex than you think.

When I read this, I thought “The Las Vegas Monorail didn’t open that long ago” but then I double checked and it’s almost at its 20th anniversary!

Somewhere in Disney there is an excel file with a cost analysis comparison between running/updating the monorails, and an alternative Skyliner/Airport-style People Mover option.

The Poly/GF/Contemp get a lot of business because of the monorail, so removing them would be idiotic, but for all the other park guests, any other option could be possible.

I think you are overestimating why people stay at the Poly/GF/Contemp. Maybe early on, but the resorts are attractions in and of themselves and although the Monorails are a nice perk they don't go there just for that mainly because you don't have to stay there to ride the Monorails. Walk to MK, Walk to TTC for the ferry or park the TTC parking lot and you can ride them all day if you want. Having it at the hotel is convenient but not that big a thrill. It can't be all that great because all I hear is how ready to fall apart they are, smelly and not dependable. If anything, going by that, it's more of a deterrent.

Oh well. I guess WDW must make do with their duct tape monorails :)
Monorails duct tape and all do have their fans. A few years ago I read there was a monorail drinking tour ( ie monorail bar crawl with 3 resorts, 5 drinking stops ) with groups of fellow guests drinking at the resorts then using the monorails to hop to their next drinking destination.

They already don't need Space Mtn., they have Tron. Space Mtn is OK but even now no one really goes to MK just to ride Space Mtn., it is quite expendable. The monorails have a better chance of not phasing out then SM. The Castle will stay because that is the actual Icon of Magic Kingdom. Everything else is expendable.

This gets me every time. Could go on to list how many attractions in MK operate daily with older ride vehicles than the current trains.
Just because one attraction lasts longer than the other, you think that means the newer one doesnt need to be replaced?

So you think everything should have the exact same shelf life?

Thats just completely untrue...........and its also relative.....

DIS had a $6b capital budget (down from $6.7B) for THIS YEAR ALONE

New monorails would be in the <$200mm range which is a drop in the bucket

Name me one that can make a train that will fit on WDW beams, fit in the Contemporary and deal with the door issues - for only 12 trains.....

Then what would the difference be from what is there?
Seriously? ALL OF THEM CAN DO THAT..........

Blog Mickey also has an article from 2021 that says WDW monorail fleet is quite possibly the oldest in the world
