Hi every one I was wondering if any one knows which airlines you can PICK your seats. I usually from Airtran but due to my finace being 6 6 and 350 pounds even an exit row is squishy and I know alot of other planes are bigger than air tran. I fly from Midway in Chicago ! Thank you!!

We usually fly Continental and I've always been able to pick my seats. We often fly with small children, so seat selection is pretty important to us. I know some people will say they are more $$$ than other airlines, but these days- everyone is $$$.

Jetblue you can pick your seats. They seem to be a little larger also. I husband is a large guy and he was pleased with seats compared to Southwest!!!

I have always been able to choose my seats for flights with Delta, however those seats that are in the bulkheads and exit rows don't ever seem to be available for choosing.

We're flying JetBlue for the first time and they let you pick your seats. They also have a few rows on each plane that have extra legroom for little bit more $. I think it's like $10 more per fare to get the little bit more legroom seats. Only thing is they fly out of O'hare, not Midway.

JetBlue is the only airline I'm aware of that is in the same "discount" class as AirTran, but also lets you pick your seats. They also have better on-board amenities than most of the major carriers, including free satellite TV and radio at every seat, I believe on every flight.

Note that "extra legroom" seats like exit rows do cost extra, but that seems to be the trend even on some of the major carriers. The nice thing about JetBlue is that it's a fixed upgrade charge, I think $10, rather than a different class of service requiring you to modify your search. You simply pick the flight you want, and when choosing your seats some are identified as being "extra legroom". Choose one and it just adds the upcharge to your quote.

I do not know whether they serve Midway or not, but they have a big presence in Orlando.

One caveat with JetBlue is that their prices are a result of lower fees paid to airports - they essentially pay for a lower class of service from the airport (at least at Newark), with the end result being that when traffic backs up the airport is allowed to give other airlines preference over JetBlue. Bottom line is that on average JetBlue flights tend to be delayed, diverted, or canceled more often than on major carriers. I'm not sure but I assume other discount carriers like Southwest and Airtran are subject to the same sort of thing. None of this is enough to deter my wife and I from flying JetBlue - it's our first choice every time we fly on our own dime. Just be aware...

I'd also suggest checking out Seat Guru (www.seatguru.com) . They have the seating diagrams for all airlines, information on seat width and seat pitch (the amount of legroom).

They also include their thoughts on the best and worst seats on each plane, as well as seats that may have some drawbacks but aren't "bad" seats.

By "PICK" do you mean select your seat when you book your flight or when you get on the plane and then look for an acceptable seat that would work best for you?
