I like New Orleans idea. Love Mardi Gras idea even more. It has to be cheaper to celebrate Mardi Grass every night than new years eve. Beads are cheaper than fireworks I think.

Bold new vision....DTD Mall....Hyperion Mall...Mardi Gra Mall....Its still a mall. Just a mall with Mickey ears on it.

I don't even bother walking through Pleasure Island anymore. I walk from the Marketplace on the outside parking lot if we go to Planet Hollywood. We walked down the West Side in February and were disgusted. Boring stores you can find in any mall.

If I want "old time New Orleans/Mardi Gras" themeing, I will, and do, go to the French Quarter in New Orleans.

New Orleans is way too close for me for me to drive to Orlando to see a replica.

Yeah, but there are no alleys that stink of garbage or strippers clawing at you to come into their room at Port Orleans. It's just not the same.

Does it really need a theme? I say drop the Marketplace, PI, Hyperion Wharf, West Side names and just call the entire thing Downtown Disney. Let the atmosphere develop from the vendors that move in.

No way. Then we'd be left with even more of a mall than we already have.

The Marketplace is great. Great vibe, great, unique stores and restaurants.

I was thinking about it, why do they even call the middle section pleasure island anymore. It's all restaurants and shops now. They should just call the whole area downtown Disney and be done with it.

Awesome I really like the Mardi Gras idea. I guess that is why I take the family to Universal Studios Orlando every year for their event. FAIL

Wouldn't it be great if TDO could actually come up with a forward thinking idea that could offer adults a destination for nighttime activities that were different than your run of the mill meat market/restaurant/bar? They could call it...

wait for it....

So they kill Hyperion Wharf because, as a turn of the century boardwalk, they were afraid of developing a property that was too closely themed to an existing resort....

and they replace it with a mardi gras themed mall closely themed to an existing resort.

Wow!

Vision!

Creativity!

This is starting to get sad....

So, according to some, PI was closed (in part) due to rampant drinking, and incidents relating to the consumption of too much alcohol.

So, now Disney wants to re-theme the area in alignment with an event often characterized by......
