For the people who've pointed out how quick Disney is to replace the "paper" APs when they're damaged, that's exactly my point. It would be annoying to have to take the time out to actually go get a new one all the time, as opposed to getting a nice plastic one (as DL does) and not even having to worry about it.
I would agree with you IF: 1. they were not durable and 2. if I actually worried about it.

When I went to get an Annual pass time bofore last I was directed away from the main ticket booths to Guest Services.

Yes, I was kinda, well, I'll just admit it, annoyed with that. I mean, if you are just staying a few days, you can get your ticket on your room key at your resort. So easy when you are tired from the flight and just wanna get to your room, stash your stuff and head to the park for some food and fun. Yet if you (or your in-law's :lookaroun ) are shelling out the cash for the AP's (and in the case of my family, 5 AP's! 6 when Leah turns 3!!) AAAND the cash for the deluxe resort, you gotta run over to guest services and get your ticket there!! Not a big deal, I'm not b!tching, just kinda inconvenient, and my 2 cents. :) (and I voted for "because they seem less durable" or whatever that last option was...)

For the Magic Your Way tickets they should do something similar to Circut City and Best Buy in Store Pickups. You purchase online, print a number and get the tickets at the park. Will save alot of time in lines.
they have that now. It is called "will call". I do that with my APs. I buy the APs online, opt for "will call", print the receipt and take that with my ID to the ticket window and get the pass. One of the best things Disney has ever done, IMHO, for tickets.

Well, apparently they're not durable for everyone, as some have already pointed out in this thread that theirs have quickly worn down and had to be replaced.

Wasn't completly sure that they had a system like that, but good to know. This is a must for the "Magic Your Way" tickets as although the new ticket system isn't that hard to understand it will take a little while to get use to it. If you purchase them online then Disney can explain the choices and options very well. They could even create a wizard type aplication to reduce the frustrations they may come.

While the existing tickets are easy to handle if you purchase them at the gate the new system is sort of like ordering a pizza. People always change there mind while they order the pizza and this will likely cause long ticket lines.

Also: For people who said that the plastic tickets wear out. That is true the magnetic strip on the back will do that. Another idea although not a good one for the current Disney system are the key fobs like Gas stations and such use.

While I do agree with what you are saying, even plastic would not work for some, in fact, no matter what you use, someone will have an issue with it.
You simply cannot please everyone. Right now, it is apparent (only because Disney has not changed and they usually do if there is enough noise from guests) that it works for the majority.

Interesting, when we got our Cirque Tickets by mail we received paper tickets, then a little over 2 weeks later, we received plastic ones. Seems like they could not make up there mind.

PKI uses Plastic. A little more convinient in my book. But the plus for the paper tics is after the season, you can roll up a big dooby and get stoned to the bejeezus on WDW pixie dust.

Why punish some for the careless mistakes of others?

I know that some people are careless with their tickets, but not everyone who needs replacements is. When my 5-day park hopper ticket wore out, I would not say I was careless with it at all. We kept it in the sleeve that AAA gave us and in a water resistant pack. They still melted in the rain. I still have the shriveled up ticket (simply because I can't bring myself to throw away WDW ticket stubs and such). We took care of our tickets as best as possible and they still melted and stopped scanning. I guess next time I'll take zip-lock bags to keep them in during rain storms. All I'm saying is that if this happens within five days to a park hopper ticket, then I'm willing to bet that it also happens to APs.

In response to Bwana Bob's inquiry.

As I pointed out earlier, the resorts are secondary locations and do not process near as many tickets as the parks. More importantly, they HAVE to be able to have the option of printing Key to the World, which is the room key that doubles as a charge card and theme park ticket. The room key HAS to be plastic in order for it to be read in the highly sensative room key reader at the Guest's room.
The resorts do not have to print out too many of these compared to the parks and again they HAVE to have room keys that are plastic, therefore it is no big deal for them to have plastic tickets.

I really had no idea this was that big of an issue to people.

Apparently it is a big issue. Who knew?
I understand that the Disney store is now plastic because they use one blank and charge it for the length you want. Is that true?

The Disney Store has always had plastic tickets (at least in recent history). You can buy park hoppers for 4 or 5 days (you pick) or park hopper plus tickets for 5, 6, or 7 days (you pick). When we switch over to the new tickets, I don't know how exactly they'll be done, but I'd assume that they'll remain plastic.

Just to throw in my two cents. . .
I would love to see a more durable ticket because of the amount of time that we spend in line replacing them. Every trip my AP is in the sleeve in my pocket, so I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. I'm in my third year of annual passes, and have lost count of how many times they have become desensitized and have to be replaced. Including the hassles at Fastpass machines, the amount of time that we waste would definitely be worth an extra few bucks to have a plastic one.

Pix...

I am very aware of the whole room-key sensitivity issues.

What I'm saying is, with the roll-out of the new ticket purchasing plans, it would benefit to go to something that could do all that I mentioned AND carry a balance, if you will, to re-plenish as you like.

We do something very similiar already. If I take into consideration what I'm responsible for (my jurisdiction) and do the math, 'we' produce on average over 135,000 cards DAILY with this capability.

P.S. the mag strip on the back of the cards, although not fool-proof, takes a BEATING to go bad. (watch 'Myth-Busters' on Discovery Channel some day! Wholy crap! :D )

Alright. I'm done. As long as I can get into the park, I don't care.

Just a suggestion.

Ahhh yeah, the hotel room ones are notoriously weak. The ones that you get at Disney Store or from a ticket window are made of much heartier stock.

I had a ticket the other night and after 1 wash, you couldn't read anything on the back of the ticket and the magnetic strip was nearly gone.

That is a true testament to the power of today's modern washing machines. Just a few years ago, that ticket would still have been in good shape after going through the wash cycle of older washing machines. Progress is our most important product!
