I really did not know that the original "Pix's Super Happy Fun "Why is my ticket made of paper" Thread would turn into the somewhat complex discussion it has become. I wanted to know why people were bothered by their Annual or Season Pass being made of a paper material. Besides knowing why I now want to clarify the other thread by knowing how imporant the material of the APs / SPs are to everyone.
If you already posted in the original thread please vote in this one as well. Please visit the original thread if you have yet to select your reason for caring about the material of your pass... http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?p=834324#post834324

Thank you all, and please do your personal best not to ridicule anyone who may feel this is important to them or those that do not feel it is important at all. Just be nice... please.

JEEZE, Do we really need another thread on this? I think most already gave their opinion one way or the other in the other thread.

Could we please let this die? :brick:

I voted in the other thread and in this one. While I do feel somewhat let down that the pass is paper, in the great scheme of things it is relatively unimportant. I wouldn't complain to anyone, but couldn't help a "Huh, look at that. Would have thought there would be more to it" when we received our passes.

Hi Ace,
In the other thread I did not have the opportunity to see the importance to people in measurable numbers. In the last post a few people expressed the importance to them, but not that much. More importantly the point of the last thread was to find out why the material is important, however, I was not able to see how important it is to people. If people do not like paper annual passes because they think they will wear down, but it is not a big deal to them then I will have learned that the people that really do care about it are in the miniority. Moreover, the last thread made it seem like it really was a big deal to people because of the amount of responses, but that really is more about perception. In this thread it will be in a measurable number and if it does turn out that the majority of people here really do care what their ticket is made of then I will know more about the preference of our Guests. The more I know about our Guests the better I will be at any job I have with Disney.
I do apoligize for the two different threads, but I want to know as much about our Guests as possible. I don't want to think I know what a Guest cares about without actually asking Guests up front.

Thank you for understanding.

It's not that big a deal to me. Just a cause for the very occasional "hmmm, wonder why they chose to do it this way" though, mostly based on posts on this site. It just seems odd that Disney has two different types of tickets, which seems a bit redundant.

It is not a big deal to me at all. While a plastic card is always nicer, there is nothing wrong with the paper ones, so long as the ticket gets me into the park, I don't care.

thank you for including the It really is not important to me at all in this poll. I don't care as long as it works, which it always has for me (except once, when my fingers swelled up, no big deal, showed my ID and away I went) and I have yet to have to replace it.

As I said in the previous thread, it's not a deciding factor for me - but it is somewhat important and something that I would like changed. I simply believe that the greatest theme parks in the world deserve something better. Forgive the copy/paste, but my feelings haven't changed :

It just comes down to the fact that I'd love to have a hard, plastic card to carry around with me, to keep and remember with "forever".

For instance, when I lived in Orlando a few years ago I was still a student and only could afford a UO season pass, and that hard plastic card, with my name and picture, was in the back of my wallet for years and now is a treasured keepsake of my time there. I wish I had the same at WDW.

I understand why the AP's are the way they are : the ticketing media is available throughout the resort, it's easy to replace lost AP's this way by making them semi-disposable, and this way you can get an AP at any ticket window. I get all that. And I actually like how easy it is - I can show up at any WDW ticket window at any time and know I'm gettin' in. But you know what? I'd be willing to pay MORE to have a hard, plastic, personalized pass.

Say, charge me $5-10 for it - and make it only available at certain Guest Services locations. That's not too much of an inconvenice to me to do once a year. If you need a temporary paper one because you forgot yours at home, you can still get it - or you can go to that special guest services, pay the fee, and get another hard plastic one.

If I lived in Orlando now, I don't think I would care as much. However, I live over a thousand miles away and "only" get there 3-4 times a year with my AP (I say only in quotes because I know that is FAR more often than many people get to go - I certainly count myself as lucky). A hard, plastic card has heft and weight and feels like a "part" of something - not just a paper ticket that, while made of a moderately durable material, is still just a piece of cardboard.

So that's why I don't like the paper cards. It would make me feel like I have a piece of the magic at home, and when it expires I'd like to put it in a pile in my keepsake drawer and watch them pile up as the years go on. I guess on some level that could be seen as self-gratification, but it's only for my benefit, not for others to see my "status".

I understand what we are buying is admission, not a tangible item : however, $400-500 is a HUGE investment for many of us, and I don't think it's all that unreasonable to expect that most people are going to want some tangible, durable symbol of that to keep after the investment itself has expired.

Doesn't really matter so long as it lets you in the door, but I like the idea of plastic as it can be run through the wash (not that that has EVER happened to me), and can hold up to the daily wear and tear of both hands and machine.

I just dislike the idea that WDW guests continue to labor under the misconception that Disney actually sells a paper ticket to the public. All the tickets sold by Disney are plastic. The AP's are 100% polyethylene (i.e. "Tyvek") which is the most popular and widely used plastic in the world. Describing these tickets as "paper" is actually disinformation.

I voted that it's not important to me. I don't even currently have an AP, so it really doesn't matter to me. My family did have them a year ago, which is why I got involved in the original discussion. I only voted here because of the request for everyone in the original thread to respond to this one. I would prefer the harder plastic because it seems more durable when used excessively, and I have had a 5 day park hopper become damaged beyond use (due to circumstances beyond my control like weather). However, when the passes were purchased, I also had the "huh? I thought there'd be a picture and processing involved" type of reaction. We were very surprised that there wasn't any further processing to be done. But, as long as it gets me in the gate, I guess it doesn't matter. (Although it would be nice to have them as keepsakes. I still have my UO AP.)

So sorr - being that I'm a former person from WDW Research, i can think of a boatload of reasons as to why this poll should supercede the previous one, mainly as to whether its important enough to keep people from buying Annual Passes and teh whatnot. Granted its non-scientifice and not random at all but should give the general idea to those in research whether or not this really matters to the AP holders or not.

That notwithstanding, if you didnt want to read more, there was no reason to click on the thread. I'm sure if steve didnt approve, he'd do something about it.
