Rumor Pixar's Coco coming to the Mexico Pavilion

This is getting interesting. First the theater and Coco overlay get cut. Why? Then we hear about imagineers in front of WoL. Then Jim Hill brings up Black Panther. While I have no idea if they can or can't use Black Panther at WDW, by looking at what was cancelled, there has to something added and this story is a good one. All I know is that in the next few months I expect an insider to let us all know what happened and why.

I thought the insiders never said Coco overlay got cut, just that it wasn't as sure a thing as it once was.

I believe this is correct, I don't think anyone outright said Coco was cancelled. It sounds like the funds were shifted elsewhere and the Coco overlay was put on the backburner as they felt the money could go elsewhere (I believe, but an insider can better chime in, or @MisterPenguin ). And to be fair, Coco was never officially announced, unlike the theater, which was. That's a bit different than this, but in terms of funding it's similar I suppose.

This is correct, AFAIK.

I hope this happens. Coco was an absolute delight and an overlay, even a cheap and quick one, would be superior to Gran Fiesta Tour IMHO.

And as much as I want a Coco overlay, I hope it's not back to a half-hearted attempt here and in the UK. I'd rather have a beefed up UK than a carousel, LOL

But I hope this happens, I really do! I just don't want it at the expense of somewhere else. But really, the company has money. No reason they can't do this and still give us a dark ride in the UK, but you know, budgets and all that, lol

La Pantera Negra overlay of Gran Fiesta Tour, confirmed!

Is the project being reconsidered as it was before the uncertainty, or has it been scaled down/budgeted down? I think they could manage a great overlay with less than 75 Million

A great "overlay" could be achieved with $10-25 million, IMO. Never understood the budget for Gran Fiesta's refresh. Not sure what Disney actually had in mind for the space but my take away from all of this is that whatever I think a refresh/re-imagining/overlay/redesign budget should be; I should just automatically multiple the assumed amount by 300%. ('cause it's Disney)

Jim is an awesome historian, and that is all
While getting the rights back to Black Panther seems far fetched, the reaction of Frozen in Norway was also in the "Jim Hill has lost it" category. He had that info out there 6 months before anyone else.

The thing is, most of Jim's rumors are tied to the success of movies and things "being considered" for the parks. That seems to be a highly volatile game and he gets in trouble putting stuff out there too early.

And unlike our insiders who update us when an idea is killed, Jim tends to stick with every idea he hears for years after they're dead. He's keeping Monsters Inc Land and Coaster alive for DHS. And let's say that four years from now they decide to expand DHS and they dust off that abandoned idea and put into place, Jim can say he was right, which he isn't right now.
