Since there is a huge debate in the Tron thread about which Pirates is better, I thought I would do them, and those wanting to read about Tron, a favor and create a new thread for them.

I chose WDW. But what do I know? It's not like I have disposable money right now to travel to Shanghai.

I consider the two too different to compare. Shanghai's Pirates is movie based, action oriented, big effect adventure. Disney World's is classic pirates cut into pieces.

The real question is, what is better, Disneyland's or Shanghai

i haven’t & probably will ever get to go to shanghai, but when it comes to technology, shanghai easily has the edge. wdw version is more nostalgia & classic version (DL is better), but the ride really took a hit by removing the redhead.

After riding the Shanghai version, you feel utterly shameful and disgraced riding the version in Orlando.

If you haven't rode the Shanghai version, and are basing it purely on the youtube pov videos, then your opinion isn't fully valid.

They are two different animals. Ask me which one I prefer to ride with my family, several times? MK(honestly DL is best)
I rode the Shanghai one a few years ago, there was no English dub so I obviously missed some things, but it was a great ride. That said, I don't love screens on rides as much as tangible props, and I actually find more traditional rides more reliable, at least for me.
Now the Pirates stunt show in Shanghai is really maybe the coolest Pirate offering in any Disney park. Again I didn't understand all the dialog but it didn't matter because it was amazing. From the pre-show to the amazing stunts the whole thing is awesome and should be added to MK.

The fact that people are even saying they prefer the Orlando version i put down to one of those 'we love nostalga and don't want change' brigrade.

Disney would love these set of visitors, and it saves them from investing. So you have pre historic attractions that should have been gutted decades ago.

40 years separates their development. Without WDW pirates Shanghai would never exist. It really was astounding for its time. AA's were truly groundbreaking tech at the time.
I love WDW pirates for its pure nostalgia and retro Disney feel.
Shanghai is a 21st century marvel in and of itself.

I think the two can't really be compared for which one is "better" - - - Perhaps change the post to - Which one do you love more and why.
Didn't mean to thread jack - - - I will get off my soapbox now :)

Is there a reason? Or is the fact that it is in a corner?
A complete lack of understanding by that poster that the MK version is 100% a clone of the Shanghai version? And it's completely off-topic for this thread, which was created to keep Tron discussion in the Tron thread.

I have yet to watch any videos of the Shanghai version, but the WDW version is purely a nostalgia play for me at this point. Love the queue, and wish everyone riding could experience the whole thing instead of half of it being unavailable unless you are LL. DL and Paris versions are far better.

Shanghai by miles. Comparing WDW's Pirates to Shanghai's is like comparing T-Ball vs. MLB.

WDW's is the worst POTC in the world and it's not close.

Shanghai's is, in many ways, a completely different ride. BUT because it was ground-up built with the movies in mind, and gets to benefit from new tech, is one of the most impressive rides out there. It's the only version where the movie tie-ins 100% work. It's overwhelming in the best possible way.

WDW's was already sad in 1973 compared to the original and is even worse now.

Nostalgia is the ONLY reason to vote WDW's over Shanghai's because by every objective measure, Shanghai's is far better. Heck, even if we take Shanghai out of the equation, EVERY OTHER PIRATE RIDE is still better by a significant margin.
