Pirates Rehab

Just heard on my local radio that the Pirates rehab is starting. The report said it's an "extensive rehab with new characters and special effects". I was wondering if this is exactly the same as what they were planning while Eisner was in charge, or if they had altered the plan? If the plan was altered, are they now putting more into it, less into it, or the same but in different areas?

OMG OH NOES!! THE WORLD HAS ENDED!!! SATAN HAS WON!

oh come on the WDW version of Pirates has been a blasphemy since day one. It was thrown together in a short amount of time and is essentially a poor man's version of the original. I mean half the scenes are missing, theres only one tiny drop, half the special effects arent in the ride (like the shadow of the two pirates fighting in the fort). Any change they make to the florida version can only improve it.

I don't know....

I hate the fact that they are changing a classic ride. One that I remember riding since I was a kid.

But, the changes will also be great.

Guess we will have to wait and see.

Ouch.

I'll agree that they're both unique... but...

Let's just say that since the "P.C." versions, there happens to be a lot missing from the rides.

Change is constant. Don't judge it untill it happens... then speak your mind.

I'm not real excited about the track record of "rehab-redue" rides. I hope they DUMP the money in it the 1st time around and it becomes a new classic. Unfortunetely, this hasn't been the case lately. I always put PoC in the same category as HM which is a timeless classic never needing a change, just upkeep. Only time will tell.

RATS!!!! Just read the latest update saying the WDW Pirates won't be open until July.....and I'm planning to go in June! :(

Oh well, at least the changes sound like they're adding to the ride and not completely changing it. I'm anxious to see what the new "special effects" will be.

So - have any of the other attractions under rehab had any "soft openings" 2 or 3 weeks ahead of schedule by any chance? (not including EE, which is a major new addition). Do I have any reason to hope?

I really can't see us going in July. My wife is not a Disney fan (no - I don't understand it either) and she HATES the heat, so I guess if it's not open, well have to go again in a couple of years.

No, they are not redoing the track layout. Everything will still be there the way you recall it. They are adding several movie-based animatronics near the end of the ride. It takes a long time to install those, make sure the computer programs are up and running, and assure they are ready for the audience. While they are at it, they will probably clean the whole place - fix the animatronics that aren't working properly (i.e. one day the dog moves, one day he is frozen still) and clean the filters and things. A "rehab" does not mean an "overhaul"...in Pirates case, they have been working on the rehab plans for years, they are not new. As to WDW's POC, it is far from being "the classic" which is in Disneyland Resort. In fact, the Disneyland Paris POC comes closer to the original classic than does WDW - and their animatronics are first rate throughout. There is nothing is WDW's POC that won't benefit some new paint, changes of clothing, and lighting tweeks - and it's always fun to see a new character or two appear, even in an "old classic".

if they do change the whole ride completly i think they should make a roller coaster some what like the mummy. it could have all the animatronics and special effect just with alot of thrill.

The new revised storyline will include....

A crew of plundering and pillaging pirates, now lead by Barbossa, attack a Caribbean seaport town and sets it ablaze in a wild night of reverlry. We will also learn the motive behind the attack: They're in search of their old shipmate Captain Jack Sparrow, convinced he knows the location of a fabulous treasure.

In the enhanced attraction, Guest will come face-to-face with Captain Jack Sparrow and experience new special effects, including a ghostly apparition in a curtain of mist.

The attraction is scheduled to close March 1, 2006, with a tentative open date of July 7, 2006, just in time for the opening of the new second film "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" that opens in theatres nationwide.

Expect to be able to see this film presented in digital projection at the AMC Pleasure Island 24 Theatres located at Downtown Disney.

All information per officially released cast sources and is approved for release to the general public.

Hope this helps!:sohappy:

So since Barbossa is being worked into the new storyline of the ride, does that mean our current Captain leading the cannon attacks will be changed to Barbossa?

It says they're closing it down in March? Anyone have the exact date? I'll be there 3/11 - 3/17. I hope I can see it once before they change it around.
