The parrot is awesome now. Maybe it's because we were used to seeing it from a distance, but it looks very, very lifelike. The movements are incredibly fluid for a little AA and they may have even spruced it up a bit (I'm guessing?). It really shows that it's not the size but the quality. The original pirate AA was really, really...... bad.

Thanks! Thats awesome.... but why isnt he at the attraction itself? :veryconfu

becaues if you haven't seen the exterior of the attraction recently he wouldn't fit at all. it's all darker in tone now with a new sign and a new pirate movie logo. they play the movie music outstide and thus the parrot wouldn't fit the theme with his light hearted singing.

In addtion, he would also create a bottleneck effect where people would stop to watch him (I know I'm guilty), thereby clogging the entrance area. The same fate happened to the Barker bird at DL.

I have taken my husband and sons picture in front of the plaza with him in the background the last 2 times we were there. I didn't know he was gone. What is there now? I'm glad I read that here or I'd have been shocked to see him gone.

I thought they moved him to the end of the ride. Where the guys leg is hanging over the bridge. I saw him there on Monday. I didn't see him anywhere at downtown disney.

you're thinking of a different parrot that's been there since the ride's original opening .... enter the World of Disney store under the giant STITCH.... :D

i thought he was in the potc ride now right on the bridge

The origional parrot that is/was on the bridge is/was without the tatoo and some of his other piratey gear.

(last I was on pirates he was gone, some time ago. Is he back on the bridge again?)

I'm confused now...
The parrot was added on the bridge during the Capt. Jack refurb., and at the time I thought it was introduced as the barker parrot from the entrance (without tatoo and peg leg). That parrot is still there, but clearly this one at WoD is identical to the barker. Possibly they had a backup for him and that was put on the bridge
The bridge parrot was original Buford??....

The parrot on the bridge with the "hairy leg pirate" has been there since POTC's opening day. Disneyland's POTC has had the same bird in the same place since it's opening day. He even has his own audio track. If you listen to some of the ride through recordings, you'll hear the line "Another portion of rum for all hands...ye swabs!" That's him.

The one out front was actually called "Plaza Parrot" in the POTC show manual. And while he served as a barker, enticing guests to enter, the AA that is named "barker bird" is the toucan with the similar job outside Tikis.

The AA at WOD is the original Plaza Parrot, they've never had a backup for this figure.

Paul Frees provides the voice for the parrot in the ride by the pirate with the hairy leg.

That parrot is one of my favorite AA's in the ride. :)

As far as why the Parrot at the entrance was removed, the reasons have been given in this thread already. A rethemeing of the entrance to coincide with the movie connection, and the bottlenecking effect (which caused the removal of the Barker Bird at DL's Tiki Room).

yep, sounds right to me :D

There was an additional small parrot in the original treasure room (where the guards were tied up) singing 'Yo Ho, Yo Ho, a Parrot's Life for Me' - this is the only bird that is unaccounted for.... unless he magically transformed into blue :lookaroun

here's the Parrot on the bridge from Disneyland (that's always been in both rides): http://www.davelandweb.com/potc/PsFindNewFriends_WDW_243.jpg -- resembles a Tiki bird, actually.......
