Pirates cannon scene?

Hi friends! I know that everyone is pretty anti-Pirates right now because of everything that needs to be fixed, but I can't help but ride every time I go!

So, the ride starts and I'm pretty impressed because the audio sounds decent and the mermaids were in the water and the mister was working! Then we go down the little flume and into the cannon scene where the effects are all working pretty well!

But then, as we were turning to go into the next scene, I was shot with this HUGELY POWERFUL puff of air from the cannons! Is that supposed to happen? I've never felt anything like that before and especially not on pirates.

Just wondering if it was a glitch or if that's part of the ~experience~ that hadn't be working previously?

Thank you!!

Yeah I just went on it two weeks ago and noticed the same thing, first time I have felt the air. And I have been on it a million times.

Mrs Merg is far more concerned about getting wet from the 'explosion' in the water. About 5 years ago she was positioned just right for the water to shoot up into the air and come down right on her lap . Think it's taken her about 5 years to see the funny side of it though it amused me instantly :)

HAHAHA! I am so anti-bad language in Disney world, but when we rode in September in the front row - after the drop, we were absolutely SOAKED! I had my phone in my hand and everything and I reacted so absent-mindedly by screaming "Sh--!!!" Luckily it was all adults in the boat but I couldn't believe how wet we got. Afterwards the CM was all "SoOoOo HOoowW WaAssS iiITtt? :smirk:" In the words of Stephanie Tanner, "how rude!"

I've felt it and my minds thinking... brace for a water spray :D . I've thought that at that point they should have the tracks set up so the ride car rocks slightly when the cannon balls appear to hit the water.

The two times I've experienced it was in the back row on the right side if I remember correctly. It's quite powerful and can blow a loose hat off someone's head.

I believe this effect was added back when Jack Sparrow was added around 2006 as part of the next chapter/enhancement to the ride.

Funny you mentioned this. I have felt the air blast several times, I thought everyone could feel it. Well last September when we were there, I, my wife, and daughter were riding, after the cannon scene, we were about to make that slight turn, and my wife grabbed my arm, saying I just got hit with a blast of air! It was the first time she ever felt it.

I wish our cannons were as nice as DL's. I have felt this air and I was glad my hat was off at the time.

I've never been to Disneyland :( Is it the same effect? How are theirs nicer?

I thought that pirates was down for refurb?

I believe it's going down for refurb 6/8 - 9/25. :)

Haha! My friend next to me felt it too and she's pretty terrified of the ride because the last time she rode it, they got stuck in the middle of the water for 20 minutes because of how far the boats were queued up. She and I both jumped and she screamed "JUST WHEN I THOUGHT I WAS HAVING FUN!"

We need time for things to happen.
Agree with the OP that the ride was better than I've seen it in a while when we there a couple o' weeks back.
Strangely enough we got nailed by the air cannon twice this trip and I quickly realized that although I've always known it was there and peripherally experienced it, I never felt the effect as strongly as we did riding it this year.
My sister in law had an "oh sh*t" moment as it blasted her directly! It got a good spirited chuckle from the rest of the boat.
