Pirates breaks ride attendance record?

I ran across an interesting tidbit..

Apparently, Pirates of the Caribbean has broken the single-year attendance record which was held by Spaceship Earth since 1992.

Meaning, more people rode Pirates then any other ride in a year's time.

Doesn't really supprise me. Thanks to the films lots more people ride it who might not have before and the refurb would have attracted people who have previously ridden it.

When I was there in January the only ride we really queued for was Pirates.

It sounds like, from what everyone has said about SSE, that Pirates has more going for it. It's definitely one of our favorites.

Don't worry about SSE. I just rode it and it's as good as it has ever been if not better. I guess it just depends on how you adapt to change, and even then the core ride is still exactly the same.

As for Pirates...that is great. That ride deserves to hold the title, though I am surprised it is not Space Mountain based on how long the lines are for SM every time I've ever been to WDW.

Space Mountain has a height requirement and it is a coaster so many families will opt out, where Pirates admits everyone. That is the main reasons to why Pirates has more riders than Space Mountain.

Hello Merf - interesting tidbit. Is your source on the web? I was looking for other interesting facts about WDW. They're hard to find!

Not sure how to read this statistic.

Pirates is arguably much more popular than it was in years past, as the waits in both sides of thee queue will attest, with both the new upgrades and the popularity of the movies.

But SSE was also closed from essentially September onward. So it's kind of hard to judge the validity of the numbers (granted that I can't remember if pirates was open all year long, or if part of the refurb closure was this year).

Could you please provide the source of this information Merf? Or provide more detail? It would be interesting to see if it was a direct comparison of actual attendance or if SSE numbers had been adjusted to account for its closure.

PotC is a full fledged people eater (recall when they made these??)

- over summer it was regularly breaking its own daily record.

I can confirm this. It was on the Cast Member website earlier this month.

Not at all supriseing... and yet more reason to expect another classic ride made into a movie.

What will be next...

Jungle Cruise is already in development. Pirates I believe also now holds the record for most people in one month. Remember, it's not necessarily just how long the line is, but also the Hourly Ride Capacity is that determines this.

I'm not really doubting the info. I would just like to know if it is a direct comparison of numbers or was SSE's numbers adjusted. To me that would make a big difference. If a ride is closed half of the year how can it compete number wise? Not a really "fair" competition if you ask me. I will give POTC kudos next year if they get the record b/c then both rides would be open all year.

explanation

I don't think people are understanding. Spaceship Earth set the record in 1992. Pirates broke it in 2007. There is no need for a comparison for 2007 nor does it matter that SE was closed for part of 2007.
