Pirates 4, Could be on it's way!

Some franchises just don’t know when to quit. Whether or not people are getting sick and tired of the whole Pirates of the Caribbean thing, when a franchise makes that much money, it’s hard to let it die. We’ve been hearing rumblings about a possible fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie for months now, but tonight I got an email from the old friend of the site which not only confirmed a fourth movie will almost certainly be happening, but dropped details on where the series may end up going when it continues.

Our source says that Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is no longer just a possibility, it’s almost a certainty. More importantly, Johnny Depp is all but assured to return, though our scooper claims he may end up making as much as $35 - $40 million to do it. Also returning will be Geoffrey Rush and Gore Verbinski as director, but forget about the rest of the cast because from now on the movies will only be about Captain Jack.

That’s right, Pirates 4 will cast aside Will and Elizabeth to make it an all Jack Sparrow movie. That won’t be the only change Disney is planning to make when the series continues though. Our scooper says, “the ending of Pirates 3, the fountain of youth story might not be the only story they might used the next pirate’s film. The fountain story could used in another form to introduce the story for Pirates 4… the next film might be a departure from the same formula of the last three movies as well, meaning that Jerry Bruckheimer could be planning to enter the realm of Science Fiction this time around and it could be the heart of a new trilogy with Jack Sparrow and his crew of misfits. Some of the brainstorming going around involves some Jules Verne type of scenarios involving some pretty big flying machines, a man who wants to rule more than just the ocean, a encounter with the most famous and dangerous pirate of all, a race to get to a lost world (Hint, Hint) and Jack and his crew going to where no pirate has gone before (No, its not space but Disney had made animated movie about this place before with Michel J Fox voicing one of the characters).”

Pirates science fiction? What the heck? The Michael J. Fox movie our source is referring to is almost certainly Atlantis, which would tie in the Jules Verne and science fiction elements mentioned. Apparently we’ll also get more of Jack’s past and his family, which could also mean more Keith Richards. I’d actually be ok with that, Keith was surprisingly good.

Don’t get too attached to the idea of another Pirates of the Caribbean sequel though. Our insider thinks that Disney plans to take a long, long breather between Pirates movies: “word is that the start date could be around 2009 to 2011.” I don’t think we need another Pirates sequel, but if they’re going to do one, giving the franchise time to recharge is probably a very good idea.

As always, consider everything above as nothing but rumor till something more develops. Our source is a proven one, but if we can’t give you our source, then consider anything we tell you as unconfirmed gossip.

Sound interesting.

I agree with letting the series wait. IMO Pirates3 didn't have the same excitment as Pirates2 did because their was only one year in between versus 3yrs.

There was no "Hey, Pirates are back!", but more "Pirates is out. Yah a friend said it was good."

Dont get me wrong I love the series, from story perspective to technology perspective.

I woud LOVE another Pirates sequel, if not another trilogy!

The words "science fiction" sounds odd. That inspires ideas of aliens and space travel. And I'm not too sure about the flying machine.

I am, however, supportive of the Fountain of Youth and Atlantis storylines. I was thinking how the Lost City of Atlantis could be a great plot.

Where did your "scooper" get his info?

I don't know about the whole Jack Sparrow only story. I like the whole cast the way it is.

Plus, if there is no Keira Knightley, what will the guys have to gawk over???

Hmmmm, interesting.

While I loved all three movies and can't wait for more, the long wait is a good thing....no matter how hard it will be to wait that long.

I'm not so sure about the whole 'all Jack' movie thing. I love Jack, but I'm really going to miss Will and Elizabeth. It won't feel like a Pirates movie without them. :(

We'll see how this progresses. I really hope they can continue to make some great movies.

Past series have convinced me that after the 3rd movie, it's time to call it quits and let the series rest. Jaws and Jaws II were good, Jaws III was so so and the 4th one sucked more than a vaccuum cleaner.

Superman, and Superman II were good. Superman III was decent, but not as good as the first two and Superman IV sucked.

For some reason, it seems that a movie series tends to peak at the second or third movie and anything after that is nothing but a lame, pathetic attempt to keep the series alive. I think Disney should be satisfied with three POTC movies and let it be at that.

If anything, they need to pick up the story of Capt Jack as a child and bring it through Capt Jack showing up at the dock in the sinking ship in episode one.

So basically adapt the Jack Sparrow book series into a movie series? I've thought that wouldn't be that bad for a TV Spinoff like the Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. Course as far as I can see it, you've got three movies in that book series already: Sword of Cortes for 1-4, City of Gold for 5-7 and 8-10 for the Time-Turning watch or whatever they're calling it.

Science fiction in a pirate movie?:veryconfu I dont like the sound of that. If they can come up with something better than that I wouldnt mind a post pirates 3 setting. Otherwise I would like to see a prequal, something showing Jack, barbossa and Davey Jones (pre dutchman) and how all their stories came together.

I wonder if the source in the orignial post didn't use the correct terms. I would hope it doesn't have to do with a science fiction like aliens. Probably more of a fantasy like Jules Verne, as stated.

A Jules Verne twist would not work with the time period. I bet if they go with this idea, the movie will end up being Wild Wild West 2 with Captain Jack Sparrow.

I think it would work better as a Jack Sparrow spin off movie rather than an entry in the POTC franchise. Kind of like how the Scorpion King movie was to the Mummy movies.

However, I don't really like the sound of it so far. Jules Verne-like science fiction? No thanks. Personally, I think they should just leave the series as it is.

I'm not sure about the whole "flying machine" thing either.

I mean, that parachute maneuver at the end of Pirates 3 was bearable, but I don't think they should take it beyond that.
