Penelope Cruz has been cast, and a french actress who I've never heard of and appartenly doesn't speak english very well has been cast as a mermaid...WDWMazParty has a thread about it in the movie forum.

Next year from what I read is when they will start.Johnny Depop is filming a movie with Angelina Jolie at the moment then he will go into Jack prep mode.

Filming is set to begin in late May or early June of this year, in Hawaii.

Ian McShane as Blackbeard is genius casting.

I know that they haven't started filming just yet (soon though), but I also heard it has a May 2011 release date in theaters. Also read that Disney bought the film rights to Tim Powers "On Stranger Tides" novel and plan on using its story in the new movie, which makes sense, considering Blackbeard is in the novel and the story revolves around the fountain of youth. They would just replace the main character, John "Jack Shandy" Chandagnac, with Captain Jack and go from there.
