Hello Disney Friends. I'm taking my first Disney cruise at the end of May and Pirate Night looks like a fun event. I will be with my GF and my two adult children and their SOs. I haven't found anything at all about the event on the DCL website, but the app talks generally about it, saying (I think) to come up with your pirate costume prior to cruising, but that accessories are available on-board. Have any of you participated in this event and can you clear this up for me? Are full pirate costumes available? Shall I assume they are obscenely expensive? What night of the cruise does it occur? Any other info you care to share is appreciated, including your personal experience (was it fun/worth it?). Thanks!

I think every ship does Pirate Night. We did the Disney Wonder. For that night, the ship provided pirate bandanas. Pretty much everyone wore that. There are some people that came in full pirate costumes. It is basically a character dance party outside along with fireworks. The fireworks are pretty simple and no where near park quality. The plot was something about Captain Hook taking over the ship. It is geared towards kids. I lasted until the fireworks and gave up.

They butchered the show…

It used to be good and not purely childish.

As for costumes, if you want to dress up, bring a costume beforehand. Some people just wear the provided bandana, others wear pirate t-shirts, and others wear full costume. Over my 12 cruises, I’ve done all of options, it’s fun.

Dressing up with a fancy hat is a good time and worth a few photos amongst yourself, a pirate background, or Jack Sparrow.

Major issue with costumes is they take a lot more room than normal clothes.

Thanks! My GF is expressing concern over that issue (costume packing/storage). LOL! We need to give this some thought.

We dressed up a few years ago on the Dream. Costumes take up a lot of space. You can take a white t shirt and black sweatpants and make jagged cuts on the bottom. Walmart has inexpensive cloth which you can use to make a sash. That takes up less space than the actual costumes we used.

And as you can see in the background, most people are wearing a pirate T-Shirt, if not less of a costume.
