Pirata y el Perico -- closed (ONLY RUMOR!)

Pirata y el Perico was open just about all summer. Everytime I passed it was, anyway. As a matter of fact, I think I ate there 3 or 4 times! Tacos are GREAT!! Not too badly priced, either, so I'm hoping this is just, indeed, a rumor. Otherwise, I'd think it was an Adventureland Restaraunt curse! With this closed, would there be any sort of restaraunt in Adventureland??... Ones where you can sit down and eat, that is..

Bring back the pulled chicken at Mile Long - I mean - Pecos Bill!!
I second that! :D

I agree. Everyplace should be slightly different. Make 'em WALK across the park for the old usual. The theme of the land should be the theme of the food!

They just better leave at least one burger place - Pinocchio's! It's our favorite and it's become tradition to go and get a burger from there everytime we go. More food options are fine, but don't touch my Pinocchio Haus burger!

A bit OT, but one of my most vivid memories of my first trip to WDW at 7 was eating at Pinocchio's. I ordered a burger, and sat down with my family. I took one bite and spit it out - it was terrible. Then we looked closer at the menu...it was a TURKEY burger. That's all Pinocchio's had at the time.

I haven't made it back since, even though they have changed to real burgers now. Since it comes on such high recomendation from the (Divine) MissM, I think I'll have to make it a point to try it out next time.

Actually, more like Italian or Mediterranean from what I was told. Again, only rumor.

I believe I saw Pirata open once last year, but I don't usually eat or go by there. Wish I did based on what I'm hearing about them tacos.

THis is GREAT news. I have always thought that the MK's counter service offerings stunk compared to the other parks, especially compared to DAK. The tacos were good, but not great, and nothing compared to the counter service outlet in Mexico at Epcot.

The last burger I got from Pinocchio Village Haus was about the same quality as my High School's cafeteria, and I stopped eating those ones pretty quick. Now I just get the Figaro Fries if I go there with maybe a hot dog if I'm actually truly hungry(since those fries are going to be split with my wife).

Figaro Fries are the BEST!

I know I've made it no secret that I don't like the fact that most counter service places in Magic Kingdom let you chose between burgers or chicken strips. I do like the occasional burger and on my last trip tried one at Piocchio's. I don't think they have changed in quality since you last tried

I was actually rather impressed with the new Harbor House menu - very nice looking sandwiches and good chips (potato chips) served in cute Mickey Mouse trays with grapes. A distinct improvement over the horrible fish and chips and fish sandwiches they used to serve. Blech...

 What?! They changed the menu? When? They still had the fish and chips in March - I had them! They (along with the Chowder) were my faves. I used to have lunch there all the time after work. :( Is the Chowder in a Breadbowl still there?

When I was there in September the chowder was in a plastic bowl :(

Personally, if you're not a beef eater, the place didn't have much to offer. On the other hand, I liked that the theming fit in with the location. In my mind, there's room to update the menu and still fit the pirate/Caribbean theme. We have a restaurant near us that has a pirate theme, with some cool tropical menu items. If Disney did something like that, it could be great. Given the space is limited there, but something fun like Cuban food would be great. Did Ameri-Mexican food really fit with Pirates anyhow? Or they could give it a menu similar to the PotC restaurant in Paris (paired down of course).

If you want a thick chunky soup like substance in a bread bowl, head over to Animal Kingdom Lodge and it's counter service place - "Mara". They do a brilliant dish called "African Stew" that comes in a wholeweat bread bowl.

If I could not have my taco salads, which I thought were great, then I would want it to be like Flame Tree with BBQ items. We need another place to eat that has different items.

Me, too. That is so sad! Are the fish and chips gone completely, then? (Thank goodness I ate there the last time I was down!)

And thanks, barnum, for the advice - it won't replace my stuff at HH, but I'll have to try that next time I'm at DAK. (Even though I'd rather eat at Boma!)

The restaurant was open when I went last week - either on the 4th or the 6th of November (I forget which as I was in the MK both days). The park was very crowded (I think New Jersey had Teacher's Convention and the whole state came down to visit). I got a churro there that day (and the last one, to boot!) :slurp:

I'm glad MK will be mixing up their selection. I'm a vegetarian, and the selection is very limited right now in MK (either veggie burger at Ray's, or Hummus sandwich at the Harbor House).

Thanks for the news.

I'd prefer to eat ANYWHERE at AKL.

I went to Cirque a while back, and we went back to AKL just for dinner and a nightcap...

...and we weren't staying there. Of course thats common for us locals. Go to just watch the fireworks and grab a bite to eat then head back home.

i've got to agree with what was said a couple posts back...Pinocchio Haus burgers and fries were great! my fiance and i ate there for lunch a few times ( i would steal his Figaro Fries ;) )

it will be nice to see some more variety in MK foods...Cosmic Ray's is still my fav for variety.

Yes, I believe Grizz is right. I heard this "rumor/truth" on my Keys to the Kingdom tour in October. My guide happened to know a lot about a bunch of up and coming new additions to the Magic Kingdom, so I think I'll take his word on it. He also said that Pinocchio Village Haus will be an Italian quick-service restaurant, with El Pirata Y El Perico closing.

I'll miss that taco salad!! :slurp:

I had quite a few suppers ar Mara or I would nip in there when leaving Animal Kingdom and heading to The Studios for the evening.
