PIN NUMBER/DISCOUNT NOT APPLICABLE TO CURRENT RES?

Hello: New here so bear with me. My wife (the fine and wonderful Diane) book a res. for a family trip to the Polynesian and DISNEY for December this year. This passed week an email arrived offering us a 30% discount/pin number. Hoped on the phone, called Disney Res., and after the phone call what few brain cells I must have had gone numb. Seems (and forgive me if I am wrong in my description) that a Pin Number Discount can't be applied to an existing res., but only to a new res. Has anyone else experienced this?....Bottom line, of course, discount or not...WE'RE GOING TO DISNEY WORLD!

That doesn't sound right. We booked our Dec 2010 trip in Sept 2009...received a PIN for free dining in July 2010...and were able to use the PIN for that trip. Ultimately, I think it does entail rebooking the trip in their systems, but it should still be possible. We use this same approach for general public and Visa cardholder discounts...i.e. book before the discount and then call to have it rebooked under said discount once it's released.

The issue becomes that the discount is only for a certain number if rooms. They may not be available. If they are, even if they have to rebook you that is no big deal. They should handle it all

That doesnt sound right to me at all. There may not be availability as was said previously on this post, but booking a new reservation doesnt make sense. I have applied PINs for my clients to existing reservations with no issues. Call back and try again is my best advice. Good luck!!! Marie

No, that isn't right. They may have to cancel current one and rebook using the pin code. But that still doesn't make sense. I had a pin code back in Nov 2008 and they applied it to my existing reservation. I would call again. And if you get the same response, ask to speak to a manager and ask for an explanation.

Thanks for all the replies! Have been visiting this site for years (Dreaming about going to D-World), but never asked a question. Called Disney Back and sadly the pin is for a limited number of rooms (we'll file that one under "Darn"...O.K., I'm being polite.) Still with my wife losing her job...the savings would have been nice...still...going to Disney World (discount or not) just might be some very fine medicine indeed!!! Again, my thanks to all who responded!! Be good to yourselves!!!

Were no rooms available with your pin code, or just none left for the Poly??Maybe it will work at another resort- sometimes my clients want to stay at a particular resort, but change their mind when they see the great savings.

To take advantage of any room discount, PIN or general public, you need to have some flexibility. You may be able to get a cheaper rate by moving to a different room class, or a different resort. Discounts are only offered in room classes that they haven't hit their targets, and only in numbers needed to hit their targets. So as already mentioned, if they only need to book 1 more room in the Poly standard view (or whatever you had booked), they would only offer 1 room at the discount. But they may need to book say 10 rooms in the Poly waterfront view, so you might be able to upgrade room classes, and end up paying the same or even less. A TA (especially one that specializes in Disney) can help you to evaluate the options and see if you may save money by changing resorts.
