Thank you everyone! This is awesome. My daughter is celebrating her 11th birthday at Disney and we will be at EPCOT on her actual birthday. So excited about the carriage necklace (thank you for the link). She is going to love doing this.

Got a 6.75 mm silvery/grey pearl on 1/1 of this year. The setting has a small CZ stone...total including the pearl was about $50. It was a fun experience. :) I did not buy a chain in the store as they were $100+ so I still need to get one here at home.

I did this last Tuesday! So much fun. Someone on another thread mentioned it in their TR and I just had to try it. The girls there make it quite the production. I ended up with a 7.5mm pearl. The girl that picked before me had two pearls in one oyster. Lots of fun and yes, I'll be doing it again next trip.

I've heard that the uglier the oyster, the better the pearl.

Never heard that one. I did hear that the color of the lips of the oyster are a good indication of the color of the pearl inside... But I can't for the life of me remember which color was for what.

I love this! I had also always heard that the ugly and hairy oysters have the largest pearls or rare colors. I'm not sure how true it is- but I tried anyway, and have always chosen 7-8+ mm pearls. I wrote a bit about it on the Kingdom Konsultant blog. I chose their settings, but bought a chain at home- I have the exact same necklace setting as @Ariel484 above.
