Pick-A-Pearl in Japan Pavilion

Picking a pearl in the Japan pavilion always looked like fun, but I've never done it. I'd love to see some of the settings they have there & get a idea of prices before we go to see if this is something we'd actually like to do. I know that there is a cost just to pick the pearl, then the setting you pick is extra. Would anyone be willing to share pics of the pearls they have gotten and give me an idea of price ranges for jewelry? More than likely I would be interested in a necklace, but I'm not 100% decided yet.

For two years in a row, I've been lucky enough to pick one that contained a large deep blue pearl.

That is sooo lucky that you got a blue pearl two times in a row!! Good for you. I'd like to get my daughter and I something matching. Twin pearls would be so super special, but even if we don't get twins in one oyster, we will still get two and get them in matching settings. I'm so excited to do this.

I keep hoping one day I'll choose one with twins.

My Mom and I did this on our last trip, but not at Disney. We did it at Sea World and I remember it being much more expensive. I want to say it was like $75 for the pearl and the setting and I still had to buy a chain for it when I got home. Of course there they have the actual divers who go down into the tank to pick your pearl so I guess that factors in. Now I kind of wish I'd just done it at Disney.

Every year I treat myself to 2 pearls in the Japan pavillion. For two years in a row, I've been lucky enough to pick one that contained a large deep blue pearl. They were $16 each. I've never had any of them put into a setting so don't know the cost for that. I keep hoping one day I'll choose one with twins.
My grandmother used to pay for my sister and me to do this every year when we were young. One year I did get twins and got them made into earrings! I must've been no older than 7 but I still remember it! :)

the setting is where they get you... pretty high cost for kind of low quality jewelry. Better off saving them, bringing them home and having them set at a local jeweler. You'll still spend the same money but certainly a better product

So...what happens to all of these shucked oysters? Do they go to Teppan Edo?

Which is kind of funny if you think about it..."Hey, we'll get these vacationers to PAY US to do a bit of work for us!"

EDIT -- Just saw a video on youtube. Okay, so the visitors don't shuck their own oyster.

But still the question remains....what happens to the oyster? If they just toss it, that's a pretty major waste.
