PHOTOS - L'Artisan des Glaces opens at Epcot's France Pavilion

As a current resident of Paris, I can say that this is the way the popular glaces chains like Berthillon and Amorino are set up as well. I suppose it can be kind of unusual, but I'm pleased to see Disney keeping and imposing some of the classic aspects of a glaces shop in France into EPCOT. :)
There is one odd aspect about all this: in Paris, ice cream parlours are associated with Italy. The 'Artisan des glaces' resembles an Italian ice cream parlour in Paris.

I think of France when I think of Pastry and Italy when I think of ice cream (gelato) as far as deserts go.
The French too think of Italy when they think of ice cream. ;)

Prices seem spot on. We have Jeni's in Columbus that is 3 mini scoops for $5.50. There is a Gelato shop here that has $6.50 for a triple. The Venician in Vegas is the same price too.

This is not the crappy Edys Ice Cream you can buy at Target for $2.99 a tub. This is a premium product, thus a premium price.

I feel the two new areas in the pavilion are lacking ... something. Cant put my finger on it. Also, the generic chef jacket costume Im not digging, nothing special to it. :/

However, it is nice to see new offerings for Guests in the World Showcase :)

Everyone's going to ask about the food, and I'm going to ask if there's still a charming little staircase in there. I like the worn whitewashed wood.

What shocks me the most are the custom location-specific wrappers. That's the kind of expensive little detail that's rarely done in the parks anymore.

The simplistic refurb worked for China's new shop, but I agree with you. We expect to see a little charming clutter and a few more details. With some themed decorations, this would be an easy fix for France, but it seems they want a clean and streamlined look that's still inspired by old textures, etc.

I credit the WDW fans who tirelessly argue the importance of details such as themed napkins. :)

I'm beginning to fear there is a new aesthetical order in World Showcase. This Italian ice cream parlour is the equivalent to the modern flight attendant costumes in the American Adventure. WS is moving away from a certain historical, quaint representation towards a modern, stark realist look.

Personally, I think that's a mistake.

I think a better Columbus comparison is Graeters ice crean with the "French Pot" process. (It also happens to be my favorite ice cream.) Graeters charges $3.74 for a single scoop in a waffle cone, so these prices seem reasonable.

Agree, its been subtle up to recently now its becoming moreso. I thought they did a great job with the bakery in the back, but this looks barren and unfinished and that white washed wood just doesnt fit, it looks like they gave up on the painting. I guess they were trying to theme it to a more country provence feel, I just dont think it works personally or comes off right.

Yeah, the bakery looks pretty decent, especially with the surrounding area (seating, condiments, etc.).

But I'm sorry - this place doesn't seem quite right. Unfinished. I get what they were going for... But something's "off." The "old beams" above with the stark, clean look below and no props anywhere... Fail.

As far as the price, I guess you guys are right - this is the new normal for "premium products."

It's across the pond from the $15 margaritas, that admittedly blow away anything with well tequila and sour mix at your local Tipsy McStumbley's*. I don't have a problem with EPCOT offering "the best" in food and drink. If it's going to be a giant food court, at least let it be premium food. It should be things you can't get at your local mall or on 192.

* Sorry, with Simpsons land rumored to soft open tomorrow, been replaying the "Flaming Moe" episode in my head all morning.

I agree! If they're going to have something, especially in World Showcase - make it good, and we'll pay for it.

You can get the cheap stuff at home and pretty much everywhere in between.

Pricing would be acceptable if the product is in fact the "real deal," as opposed to the back-of-a-warehouse-in-Orlando pot process.

It'll be interesting to see how the new Moroccan eatery pushes in that direction too.
