Steve, might I suggest a copy and paste of the actual news from the news page here along with the link on these threads.

There really isn't much else gained by clicking over and it would help generate more discussion on the topics for us of the more lazy persuaision.

Thanks.

Yay! I love the HOI and I am so glad it will be open for my next trip in September 2011. I was so hoping that it would be open by then. Thanks for the great news!

I prefer to link to the original article as they contain photos/videos that can't be added into the forum post.

Kinect is so 6 months ago.

The House of Tomorrow used to showcase ideas that weren't around yet for consumer purchase...how come we can't get back to that?

I think the internet has given people access to so much information now that it is very hard to show things have not been seen before. The second a company has a product even close to being on the market, its all over the web. I think the exhibit is great for those who don't stay up on things, but you'll never succeed in wowing seasoned tech-watchers.

Because it would have to be updated with the frequency that new articles come up on Gizmodo or Engadget.

I guess that's the truth. Back in the day a flying saucer that could fry an egg caught the interest of everyone. Guess there isn't much to wooo use like that today. Though I would love to see the 3D tech that doesn't require glasses showcased as that hasn't saturated the market yet. And I can't remember if ours has it, but Disneyland's House of Innoventions has Plasma filled Windows which still blow my mind!

I was wondering how long it would take for this type of response.

What's your point? My comment was valid...the things they showcase in today's House of Innoventions aren't very innovative in my opinion...with the exception of the Kohler stuff and some of those kitchen appliances I can try out these things at my local Best Buy or Brookstone.

True, but there are PLENTY of items that they can still showcase that aren't yet widespread on the market. Did you see the stuff that was at the Consumer Electronics Expo last year in Orlando (DIY has been playing an hour long segment of it recently)??? That's the kind of stuff they should be showcasing in the House of Innovations...stuff that hasn't yet flooded the market and much of the public isn't aware of yet.

EDIT: The House of Innoventions should be updated atleast once a year (though I think more frequently) to keep the displays relevent.

DL's house is the only redeeming feature of their Innoventions. Even the "family" hosts are fun in a super-innocent 1960s way. Are they doing this at Epcot?

At Epcot the story is that the family are on vacation, so you are with the tour guide.

Yep I think if there was the real desire to keep it super fresh they could bring in some real edgy stuff. Problem is, it requires a lot of cooperation with outside entities, which gets messy.

I'm curious: what do plasma filled windows do?

change colors/add images for seasons (ie: snow flakes, pumpkins, leaves) and can go from completely transparent to completely opaque in a matter of seconds (including all levels of tinting in between as well!).

I should note that I'm not sure if it is actually filled with Plasma or not...or if that's even the correct term...that that should give you an idea of the technology.

Very cool stuff!

EDIT: Looks like it's referred to as "Smart Glass". I did a quick Google search and found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_glass

The Snow flakes and pumpkins I'm remember might have been another effect that they also had on the outside of the house...it's been almost 2 years since I've been there.

While you think your comment is valid, there is virtually zero chance that in 2011, Innoventions can show anything "futuristic". Due to the technology changing so quickly the product is probably going to be out in the market by the time the attraction has opened. Also, companies presently will not give WDW something that they are working on (for future release) for fear someone else will steal the idea and get it out first. Like the mod said, there has to be a lot of cooperation and companies will not do that anymore. It was different in the 80's and even the 90's.
