change colors/add images for seasons (ie: snow flakes, pumpkins, leaves) and can go from completely transparent to completely opaque in a matter of seconds (including all levels of tinting in between as well!).

I should note that I'm not sure if it is actually filled with Plasma or not...or if that's even the correct term...that that should give you an idea of the technology.

Very cool stuff!

EDIT: Looks like it's referred to as "Smart Glass". I did a quick Google search and found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_glass

The Snow flakes and pumpkins I'm remember might have been another effect that they also had on the outside of the house...it's been almost 2 years since I've been there.

Kudos to Disney for keeping this atraction open despite the challanges of the increasingly fast pace of technolgical advancements.

Once they get smart glass to the point that images can be displayed at a reasonable cost the technology will take off. Imagine being able to add cityscapes or stained glass patterns with a simple mouse click.

Never heard of a "water mill" but I am impressed with the concept. It appears to be one of those devices that offers multiple benefits. Interesting stuff.

Thanks for the info.

Have you seen this in person JT? For the life of me I can't remember if the images were imbedded with the glass technology now or not. I'm second guessing myself and can't decide if it was a separate projection technology or not. I really think they were, but I didn't take pictures of the Dream House when I made my last visit and the windows aren't something they highlight on the webpage for it.

Anyway. I would love for our House of Innoventions to showcase this same technology. Those Smart Windows really caught my eye!

They have always used some sort of spot projections in Innoventions of stuff like snow flakes, changing colors etc. and I am guessing that is what you saw projected on the house walls. Just a hunch but I wouldn't be suprised if those were Eddie Sotto's idea. They were definitely cutting edge tech when Innoventions opened.

The stuff shown in this attraction is all available online. They don't try and hide that fact and if you ask the tour guide, he or she will give you a little card that lists all the web sites for all the products you see in there. I almost bought an electric motorcycle that they were showing last time they were open but it was way too expensive for something that only went 30 miles on a charge. Great show, but once you enter, you are basically trapped in an area where a salesperson is pitching new products at you like a circus tent barker.

I'll go again next trip just to check out any new products.

I think the internet has given people access to so much information now that it is very hard to show things have not been seen before. The second a company has a product even close to being on the market, its all over the web. I think the exhibit is great for those who don't stay up on things, but you'll never succeed in wowing seasoned tech-watchers.

Exactly what I was thinking.
