i'll reserve judgement until i see it finished and in person. i'm tempted to say that the best i'll probably do is not hate it, but i don't think it's really fair to say until they complete it and see how it blends into the theme and what it does to the surrounding ambiance.

If a convoluted backstory is needed to understand something, that is a problem. The place is not communicating itself clearly.

Maybe I will be among the few, but I don't like the idea of this. It seems unnecessary at a resort that is supposed to be a top deluxe resort.

Good! I like to see more of the original Alice in Wonderland around the World. I can't get enough of that story. It was my gateway Disney movie as it opened up a whole new world for me.

For a kids playground it needs something of interest for them - this seems a very good balance to me.

Kids don't care if the bucket pouring water over their heads is themed to a hat or not. This is unnecessary and out of place at the Floridian. Shoving every conceivable Disney character into loosely appropriate spots at the resort has been going on for over a decade now and it needs to stop.

I disagree, kids are more intelligent that you give them credit for.

This is another one of those situations where Disney cant win. They put in an un-themed bucket, and you would be saying they aren't trying, and going with a cheap off-the-shelf solution. They go to some lengths to fabricate some themed pieces, and you call it unnecessary.

Yeah that comment was rediculous, can't be from a parent of younger children. I'll let you know how my 3 and 2 year old like it in November. people saying it is out of place next to a FUN pool that already had a water play area are nuts. If you are at the main pool or building you can't even tell what is going on at the beach pool.

Plus remember with the youngest kids they are free so even though the Grand is expensive you are not paying for the kids. My "3 year old" won't be 3 until a month after our trip so she's free. The benefit of staying on monorail for us is worth the cash even if this is the last time at the Grand for awhile.

...At Walt Disney World. Not sure how a play area for kids takes away from it being a deluxe resort. What about the water slide in the pool?

There is an option besides loosely fitting character decorations and no theme. Why not something inspired by old Florida seaside resorts like the rest of the hotel? Disney is supposed to be a creative company.

I don't think my comment was ridiculous and it didn't necessarily have to do with the play area. It had to do more with the theme itself, maybe I should have specified. But IMHO I don't like the idea of characters being added to areas they don't really need to be in.

Little Mermaid characters can be found in the carpeting at Beach Club. Nemo characters are now in the Caribbean Beach rooms, while princesses (who lived during varying time periods) have come together for some kind of 'reunion' in certain rooms at Port Orleans. Bambi, Chip, Dale, and Meeko (from Pocahontas) can now be found in Wilderness Lodge's bathrooms.

So as far as character overlays go, I think this one is sensible enough. From what I learned about the Victorian Era, English culture influenced culture in the US during that period - GF even has its own location for afternoon tea. So if GF had to get a new water play area (Disney seems to be building them everywhere now), I think this theme works.
