Photo update as of Saturday, Feb 21. Found this small detail in the new work recently opened at Discovery Island expansion near the Tree of Life. I will let forum members figure out where it is located.

Well, see it while you can then, before its trampled to death by an idiot tourist. Maybe the fact that its a web with scary looking creatures behind it will (hopefully) keep guests from touching.

I've got to say my most recent visits to Discovery Island have been disappointing. They've really let the place go. No trails, hardly any animals that aren't indigenous to Florida, no soda machines, it is all over grown, and I have to swim out there since some genius discontinued boat service. Don't even get me started on the current state of Flamingo Lagoon.

Photo update as of Friday, April 24. The construction walls in front of Island Mercantile at Discovery Island have been removed. The construction walls on the right side of Discovery Island are still in place. The reveal shows improved seating on the vegetation islands (rock benches) and fresh paint on Island Mercantile. Of course, there is new "themed concrete."

Photo update as of Tuesday, May 12. Construction update for Discovery Island right side of main entrance, next to Disney Outfitters. A large steel structure has appeared behind the construction walls. Photos from several angles.
As you enter Discovery Island:
From Discovery Island entrance bridge. There are concrete block walls to the right and in front of this steel structure, not visible in the below photo.

Photo update as of Thursday, May 21. An update on the expansion of Disney Outfitters as viewed across from Flame Tree Barbecue.
Construction update for Discovery Island at right side of main entrance, next to Disney Outfitters. The concrete block walls are rising (two story wall in the back), connected to the existing Disney Outfitters building. Based on the steel rods extending upwards from the back wall, it appears the wall in the back could go a little higher. (Out on a limb here: given this location with line of sight directly towards the Tree of Life, and the height, could this also be a structure housing a night time projection system for the Tree of Life?)

I assume the logic behind the store expansion is that Creature Comforts is going away as a retail option.
