I knew I couldn't be the first one to see the news! Thanks! We're already talking about it in the 50th thread.

Looking pretty good in this picture, even the pink!Fine, I guess I'll do it!
First "ribbon" installed overnight.

They may have delayed the party but the equipment to set up for it was already scheduled for now.I do like it. I’d like it even better if the 50th was actually starting this summer and not 6 months or so from now. Not sure how far in advance prior overlays like the castle cake were done?
I have to admit it’s beginning to look very 50s and i like the copper or gold big swirls around the spires. Very clean look!I really like it
Definately no "Dream Lights" this year for Christmas. I am pretty sure they could have designed that a bit better. The support really stands out. We know why they had to repaint the roof blue, it would not have matched at all.
Agreed! I found it funny in the cover article that the full size crane is 'hidden during the day!I have to admit it’s beginning to look very 50s and i like the copper or gold big swirls around the spires. Very clean look!
Yeah, ribbons and drapes vs filigree and golden characters cavorting. Wonder where those characters are today? It's funny the Disneyland 50th overlay of WDW's Castle looks WAY more appropriate that painting our castle , Disneyland's color scheme...and the decor as a whole from the old celebrations is more elegant and polished looking.
Don't hate the new cages, but they are way more cartoony...
Could you clarify what’s wrong with the close-up?Oof . . . I suspect it will look nice enough from the end of Main Street, but any closer and it looks like a big swing and a miss to me . . .

Could you clarify what’s wrong with the close-up?
Aside from the ribbon itself, which I think looks awkward and clumsily executed, the real offender is the blue cage underneath. It won't be noticeable from a great distance, but it's been painfully noticeable so far in every picture of the castle I've seen that features it.Could you clarify what’s wrong with the close-up?
I thought that was deliberate. To me, the floating effect is fittingly magical.I assume he means because they're so far away from the turrets that they actually leave a shadow. They don't look like fabric wrapped around the turret.
Thanks for clarifying. It doesn't bother me, but I can see why others feel differently.Aside from the ribbon itself, which I think looks awkward and clumsily executed, the real offender is the blue cage underneath. Totally fine - I think I may also be secretly comparing this with the gold trimmings added to Sleeping Beauty Castle for Disneyland's 50th, which I thought were genuinely handsome, regal, and appropriate for the occassion. By comparison our first glimpse of WDW's Castle's gilding feels totally value-engineered to me.Thanks for clarifying. It doesn't bother me, but I can see why others feel differently.
Those trimmings were certainly impressive! The ribbon on Cinderella Castle does look underwhelming by comparison, but I'm assuming there's more to come before the makeover is finished.Totally fine - I think I may also be secretly comparing this with the gold trimmings added to Sleeping Beauty Castle for Disneyland's 50th, which I thought were genuinely handsome, regal, and appropriate for the occassion. This isn't even a particularly great picture of what DL did with its Castle Crowns:

Nice, did they light up?Totally fine - I think I may also be secretly comparing this with the gold trimmings added to Sleeping Beauty Castle for Disneyland's 50th, which I thought were genuinely handsome, regal, and appropriate for the occassion. This isn't even a particularly great picture of what DL did with its Castle Crowns, and yet it looks so much more legitimate than the WDW photo above:
