Awesome, looks like they did a great job. Thanks for the photos, Steve.

While I am quick to criticize the issues I see with the parks, I think you have to dispense with the praise when it's due if you offer criticism. So many people are eager to criticize the faults, but they don't acknowledge the many improvements.

Hopefully this thread gets the attention it deserves and goes on for ten plus pages, but I'm betting it'll be lucky to get 10+ replies.

I agree; the refurbished buildings look very nice.

The problem with refurbs like this is that undertaking them is a fairly thankless task, especially with regard to the casual guest. A first-time or infrequent visitor notices things like construction scrims, closed attractions, and poor upkeep if it's gotten to a very obvious point of deterioration (flaking paint, discoloration, gum/graffiti, etc.) -- and is negatively impacted by such things.

On the other hand, I don't think the casual visitor tends to appreciate it when show buildings, facades, queues, etc. are refreshed and kept looking new and clean -- not in the way they notice and credit entirely new attractions, for example. I doubt many casual guests even notice this part of Main Street -- they're mostly too busy rushing to get to the rest of the park, or on their way out late in the evening.

So, even though this type of refurb should be expected as part of the general maintenance and upkeep of the park, I do think that getting it done effectively deserves some positive attention and praise.

One thing I will remember about Center Street was it's other form..Back in the 80's it was dubbed "Flower Alley"...As shown here..With Air Supply...Ah Nostalgia..How I miss thee..

Looks great! Can you actually get your silhouette done on Center Street or are those just set pieces. Admittedly in 23 years of going to WDW, I've never spent much time there (other than just looking). Very pretty (and usually quiet) area.

It's like vacuuming. No one notices - unless you don't do it.

Add me to the praise column. I love to grab some type of sticky breakfast and a cup of coffee from the bakery and find a quiet table down Center St for breakfast. The wife and I do that at least once every trip. From the pictures, they did a great job hiding the big gate that used to be so unsightly back there. Great Job TDO!!!!

Wouldn't it be nice if that if some day the street looped all the way around to the area near the new M&Gs or some other themed configuration. Looks great. Of course praising TDO in these parts only unleashes the Kraken and all the mini-krakens. :hurl:

I like to do this too. I love slowing down and spending extra time in the "nooks and crannies" on Main Street USA. Especially when you can grab a seat or a bench and just people watch (while enjoying ice cream, coffee or a pastry, of course :D).

I'll be the sourpuss!!

I'm happy for this cosmetic change. Rizzo now has shiny new lipstick.

To turn Rizzo back into Mickey, however, would require the restoration of all of Centre Street, not new paint on the half they left standing. Main Street ought to resemble an idealised turn-of-last-century street, not a 21st century themed shopping mall.

Yes! They are amazing. One of the artist Megan, turned me into a silhouette of a Gibson girl! She is very talented. They are not expensive and they sell the frames with them. Megan was still working there the first week of March of this year.

This is my most favortie part of Main Street. I always spend a little time here each trip. I love to sit and watch the people go by as the park is closing. You would be amazed at how many people duck into the little side street to kiss or argue. LOL!
