Photographer's View of Disney

While I enjoy the Disney-theme-park-related pictures available on this site and many other fan sites, I was wondering if someone could point me toward a site that features pictures that are more along the lines of what a professional photographer might shoot while at a Disney park. You know, something a bit more "artistic," "original" or "abstract" than the common candid vacation pics.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Tk

P.S. I know there are TONS of pictures available through member albums on this site, but maybe a photo contest of some type would encourage people to capture, submit and display those images that are of particular note.

Just photograph what you see, thats how I explain my photo's. You just photograph what you are looking at, practice to get the angle right, and the light, and in time, you will get that perfect shot.

I like to think that I have an eye for photographs. Check out my member album. There are quite a few nice shots.

I've seen other's albums as well, and I pay attention to the 4 pics that pop up at the bottom of each screen. When you see a good shot down there, make a note of the member name. Chances are there are several more journalist quality shots in there.:)

i like taking pictures from bottom to top.. meaning i'd put the camera lowest to the ground as i can, and then snap a uniquie pic upwards :)

along the lines of artistic photographers- my brother decided to use disney world as his subkect for a phot class assignment. But he decided to put a twist on it. the assignment, titled "happiest place on earth?, (note the question mark) aimed at depicting obviously disney locations in the background with images of children having not so much fun in the foreground (ie. a child crying in misery while on Dumbo.) I thought it was a neat idea, but i do have a sick sense of humor. Wish i knew where he put those pictures.

This is a little off subject, but does anyone remember in the original Imagination pavilion, Kodak used to display everyday pictures on the 2nd floor? I used to love taking some time to browse at them! Some of the shots were absolutely amazing. :)

[Naturally my first post would be about Photography (laughs)]

My advice to amature photographers is pretty simple. You can take great pictures with any camera - its about the composition of the photograph. The simplest thing to do is to 'fill the frame', by that actually using all of the available space in the 24x36mm negative. (or whatever size camera your using)

The other thing is the axiom first said by Robert Cappa (famous, dead photojournalist) is "If your pictures arent good enough, You arent close enough."

From the disney perspective, good abstract might be to take shots of Spaceship Earth's geometric shapes from different angles while using a telephoto lens.

For interesting abstract, grab a tripod and find an elevated spot and do a lenghty time exposure of a heavily traveled path, like main street or something.

My last suggestion is to just experiment and have fun with it.

A pretty decent book on the basics is the National Geographic Field Guide to Photography.

hmm.. the best shots of the parks I've ever gotten were all taken from restricted areas (with permission!!)...

ex- when I was in High School, and working part time for WDW, I got permission to set up a tripod and shoot from the main street planters. I got some really beautiful shots of the MSEP.

For parades at MK, my suggestion would be from either the main street train station (up top), or from the castle breezeway.

Also, just walk around the parks... there are a lot of hidden areas the offer great shots of the park. The best part is... most of these areas aren't restricted, and most guests don't know they're there. (I can't think of any right now... but it's 1am.. so bah!)

Best spot i ever shot FitS from was in front of the flag pole on Mainstreet using an 85mm short telephoto & a tripod.

(Of course i did have to stake a claim 2 hours in advance and have to have a very tall tripod, but they looked sharp. Fun part was when i was somehow confused with a CM. "Gee sir, i'm not really sure, but that young lady over there sure could tell you")

For other, interesting parade shots, try the curve that's near the bridge to tomorrowland, so that when the parade comes around, the castle is directly in the bkgnd.

MKT is right, try the off the beaten path stuff, you'll get some great stuff.
