Dave has tried giving me advice in the past...all I get is "wah wah wah"

:lookaroun :o

I think once it gets too technical, I'm lost. We have a new Kodak Z710 or something like that and I've basically played around with it. This next trip I hope to get some decent shots with that camera. My dad also bought a telephoto lens for the camera, so we'll see

*has no idea what she just said but nods "uh huh"*

On the subject of tripods, the Velbon looks nice, but is there anything considerably cheaper that folds down to 14" or less? I found that one for $80 online, but was looking to spend $40 or less... It seems like a lot of the stuff on eBay is just crap. Am I going to have to spend more than my desired amount to get something decent (I only use a $200 digital camera--Casio EX-Z60...it doesn't even have manual settings). Also, does anyone who is 'photographically inclined' have experience with the EX-Z60? Is there anything I can do with the settings to get better night time shots?

I'd have to play with it to see what it does, but generally... Try turning off the flash. Prop the camera on a bench, railing, trash can, etc and use that as an impromptu tripod for a long exposure. Spectro may not come out but the nicely composed picture of the partners statue should.

The biggest thing with night shots is understanding that sometimes, they just dont come out, no matter what you do.
