Will be visiting WDW with my family in February for the very first time, and have been trying to pick up hints. On one info board it mentioned that you should carry a "photo I.D." with you at all times. Is this a must??? , and if so why??

Thanks, BABA MICKEY

Out of all the times I've been to Disney, I don't think I've ever had to show my ID, unless I was buying alcohol:rolleyes: or maybe check in at the resort. I always have my wallet with me, so this really never was an issue I've had to deal with.

If your finger scan does not work when you try to enter the parks they will check your ID to make sure you are the correct user of the ticket.

I have been to Disney many many times and the only time the asked me for ID was when I bought stuff with my credit card. Which at that point im glad to show it cause most places dont ask for that, even though it says see photo ID on the back.

You will all need to do the finger scans each time you enter a park. It is really not hard at all. You will simply put to fingers into a machine and that pretty much it. Don't worry about.

Ticket type

If you are purchasing a FL resident or Annual Pass you will need your photo ID to prove your residency to FL. I'm not sure why they want one for the AP the first time it is activated since once the finger scan is done it will lock the ticket to that individual.

However, as posted before if the finger scan doesn't work and the CM isn't in the mood to just wave you through you might need it.

Also, you should always have photo I.D. on you, especially when you are traveling, in case of an emergency. True story.... my dad is an insulin dependant diabetic and was on vacation in Hungary. He was sightseeing, just walking around the town... when his blood sugar dropped very quickly. Luckily, he called a friend he was traveling with who was able to tell him where he was, and went to find him. If he had not been so lucky as to remember to call his friend, his NYS Drivers License would have been instrumental to the local authorities.

Before I had a photo I.D., when I went on trips with school or with friends, my mother always made me write my name, address, phone number, her name and work phone number on a piece of paper that I had to keep in my pocket all the time.

They ask for your ID when you check-in to your resort, buying alcohol, if your biometrics scan doesn't work at the front gate, sometimes (depends on the CM) when buying things with your room charge, and if you get a really odd CM when you buy stuff using your credit card. I had the CM at the Lego store ask for my ID when I bought stuff using my Visa. I was ticked off because I was 19 at the time and had my credit card for a year. I think he thought I was about 15 and trying to use a stolen (? my mom was standing right there) credit card.

Besdies the fact that it's helpful, I'm pretty sure it's also a law in Florida to have a valid ID with you at all times.

Keep it with you. It's small enough not to make a hassle and it can save one.

Now I understand.

Definitely do NOT bring your passport to the parks.

Do Canadian driver's licenses have photos? Or are you a student with school ID?

Like MissM said, it doesn't take up that much room, and it isn't that heavy, and it may save you a major hassle later.

Your Ontario Driver's License, the newer OHIP card [the original red and white OHIP card doesn't have a pic] or any other ID card with your picture and name will do. All are credit-card sized, so shouldn't take up too much room.

Any time you're out of province you should have your OHIP card with you at all times [and any other proof of medical coverage you might have as well]. American hospitals won't treat you unless you have proof of heath insurance coverage. It is easy enough to be injured anywhere you go [even at Disney ].

I am a firm believer in never leaving ome without my id. My thought is that even if I'm walking to the corner store anything can happen. What if you were alone and something happened to you no one would know who you are? I consider my id a life saver.
