So why did I take this picture in the first place? Well I was trying to capture the hinge from a colonial structure that was not of privilege; it was supposed to represent a hinge of leather (not metal; even though this one is metal). The story behind that is that only the wealthy could afford the metal hinges of the day where-as the more pedestrian structures were of leather and sagged (the metal hinges maintained the shutters in a more sturdy configuration; upright).
