Pfizer Vaccine News

This must be reginal since there is no flour shortage where I live. They did run out of canning jars and supplies this year. Lots of angry people about that. But it is still Lysol and other cleaning products that are in short supply and are still being limited here, as well as toilet paper.
We've seen here that the 25lb bags went totally away last spring and have not returned. And this is a baking town particularly in winter, so we're all lugging multiple 10 pounders, 5 pounders out to the car. That little bag of King Arthur doesn't go very far. lol So somewhere, somebody who bakes a dozen cookies a year is stuck with a huge bag of flour in their pantry.

I agree the timing was bad, but I don’t think it goes beyond that. If they sold the shares the day before bad news that sunk the stock price it would be much worse optically. The guy really didn’t have all that many shares. He’s a new CEO so doesn’t have a stockpile of shares like some chief executives do. I don’t see it as dumping shares as much as normal financial planning. The whole reason to have these pre-planned stock sales is to allow execs to sell their shares without having to worry about insider trading.

From the standpoint of the vaccine, I don‘t see this as any reflection on the possible viability of the vaccine itself. I know that has been implied some places that this is somehow a sign that Pfizer thinks there is a problem with the vaccine.
Frankly I'm baffled that the company allows officers to trade outside very specific windows. I've worked in large corporation before and when I had the misfortune of working in group that the company had decided made me an insider we weren't allowed to trade any stock through any means except in very specific windows the were 2 weeks prior to the quarterly results unless you had large transaction going on in which case you were simply SOL on making any trades.

It seems rather sophomoric for a company as large as Pfizer to allow officers to make any trades that might create a bad perception and that is clearly what this one has done.

I'm sorry, but I have to ask. How is what we have been discussing not in line with the title of this thread? The things that you have referred to as not in line is about the vaccine no matter who made it. The title doesn't say how does the vaccine affect your plans or daydreams of coming back. I merely says "PFIZER-VACCINE-NEWS. Ergo, a discussion about the vaccine! But you'll be happy to know that I have discussed everything that there is to discuss at this point, so I'm out anyway!
Because like I’ve already said a thousand times, it’s a freaking title. That’s it. It doesn’t necessarily convey the point of the thread. In order to understand the point of the thread, one would actually have to - wait for it now - read the actual post! Imagine that! And if anyone with half a brain took the time to actually read my original post, it would become quickly and abundantly clear that a general discussion about the safety and efficacy of this particular vaccine and the history of vaccines throughout time was not the point of this thread. By your “logic,” if I had entitled the thread “Uplifting News,” and then asked the same exact question that I asked in the post, you would be within your rights to talk about the coming birth of your next grandchild. Now, just like I predicted would be the case yesterday, come on back and have the last word.

You are correct, but not really encased in reality. Many people might sign in the first time many pages into the thread and never have the time to go back to the Original. It is only a discussion board not an instruction book on brain surgery. If you want people to know what you intended with the thread than it is important to make that purpose as clear as possible with the title.

Thanks for the advice, but I think I got this one on my own! I’m just going to trust that most people here aren’t complete simpletons who have no ability to read past a thread title. That’s the reality I live in anyway. Now let me guess, you’re going to run right back here and have the last word?! Be my guest.

Since the vast majority of the posts in this thread would be considered “off topic“ I am pretty sure you underestimated the number of simpletons posting here. Be that as it may, the easy answer for everyone is to continue the vaccine talk in the other thread and let this one get back on topic.

Oh no, he's not the "last word" guy, but I'm sure you won't have to wait too long for one of the de facto mods to explain how this site works and advise you how to post (it's a free service here) ;) I'm sure it's all well-meaning.

Goofyernmost had a point about people seeing the thread title and starting with the most recent post, though. I know I've done that just to see where the discussion is in real time. Thanks to this thread, I'll be sure to read the original post from now on!

Yeah, his point would have been well taken if he had simply raised that point, but then admitted that the responses were nevertheless actually off topic, given my original question. Unfortunately, he raised that point and then still insisted that the responses were actually on topic anyway. Okay, time for me to step aside and let the “last word” boys run back and have at it, lol!

You're not real good with discussions are you especially if somebody disagrees. I have tried to point out a couple of things that I thought would be helpful and instead of just saying thanks but it's ok the way it is, you have to imply that I have to have the last word and yet you keep replying to my posts. What is that called?

Uhhhhhh, it’s called here you are yet again trying to have the last word, exactly like I said you would. Not sure how else to explain it to you. But hey, thanks for proving my point!

In the case of Pfizer there was no financing needed. It’s a massive company that regularly does R&D at risk, it’s part of their overall cost structure. The sales contracts they signed with multiple countries made it certain that if a vaccine worked they had someone to sell it to, but there’s little doubt that if they hadn’t sold a single dose in advance they would sell all 1.3 billion doses next year. Really, the advance purchase agreements were more important to the countries receiving the vaccine to ensure they have enough for their citizens.
As a businessman I disagree. The problem with that theory is that it assumes Pfizer is the only company producing a vaccine. Modern a just announced a potentially better one with more companies to come. Getting these contracts signed is of crucial importance. Pfizer would not have financed the production of the vaccine if they didn’t think they could sell any doses. These contracts ensure that there will be a market for their product making its development a no brainer.

Pfizer started trials in the US more than two months before the purchase agreement was finalized.

Somewhere in my crayon box is color called "Skeptical" and you can use that crayon to color me that.
Pfizer's vaccine creation (not paid by the government) 90% efficacy is impressive, if not unheard of. Then, with some people having the belief that "size always matters" and the incessant need to outdo "the other guys", Moderna (paid by the government as in socialist medicine) comes out with a vaccine that is 94.3% effective.
While a working vaccine is certainly important, all the governors and all the state health officials want to "read the transcripts" that show all the potential study data and facts surrounding these studies. Follow the science, facts and the data.
If you want to take a vaccine that is not completely tested or proven, like Hydroxy Chloroquine, please let me know how it works.
Does the "Skeptical" colored shirt clash with my red state?

That's why few are getting in line for their jab prior to FDA review.

So who is exaggerating and to what end?

Feel free to remain skeptical. But the rest of the world will get in line, and they will then stop wearing masks and following all the other rules many rely on to feel safe.

I was wondering about the authenticity of the claims too. The way that I see it, if Fauci and our top scientists who have been telling us to stay inside this home time endorse it, they know something that we don't know, and I'm all for it. If they call it another Hydroxy Chloroquine situation... well that's a legitimate reason for concern.

Remember, comparing this Trump's drugs is not necessarily a valid argument. Fauci and the scientific community were calling that a drug inappropriate for Covid from the beginning. If those same people embrace the vaccine, you can presume that they've looked into the authenticity, dotted their i's, and crossed their t's.
