Anyone ever done the petty driving exp. @ WDW? I'm thinking about it when we are down in a few weeks and just wondering what the opinions are on whether it's worth it or not? Would love any input. Thanks !!!!!!

Sort of in the pricey side IMO. There are more fun driving schools across the country with ALOT more seat time. True you don't get to go 150 or whatever they limit those cars too but you will get the joy of turning right AND left.

I know one guy who's wife got it for him one year. He loved it, there are at least 2 different one's to choose from. Sadly I can't do it, at 6'6" tall, I'm too big to get into the car, but there are plenty of other things that I can do, so my life's not over. :animwink:

I have done it twice. Expencive ? yes. But i had a blast. the second time was better and faster than the first. Trust the car! Also you should do a ride along first to get you ready.
Enjoy!

100% agree.

I have done the Petty at Disney 3 times & have also done it at several other tracks around the country. Disneys is not the best of the bunch but, IMHO worth the $$$$.

When my High School Band went down for Magic Music Days, our Band Director, a huge racing fan, completed the driving experiance with 125+ of his students packing the stands. Disneytook a poster quality/sized poster of our director in his garb and car with his students cheering with signs in the background. The picture is still framed and hanging up in his office as one of his most prized pocessions beside all of his racing memerobelia. Although the price is high, I would reccomend it to any Disney/Racing Fans.

I did it back in June 07 and loved it. I was a NASCAR brat because my dad would look for any type of race on tv when we were growing up. Didn't come to love it until I was divorced, living on my own and had the very basic cable. You find you'll watch anything for entertainment. :) I got into it more and more. Went to see the IMAX NASCAR movie and was hooked even more.

The cameras in and on the cars don't do it justice when you ride in these cars. I did the ride-along and to have someone take it to racing speeds and get close to the wall is amazing. I would do it again in a heart beat.

Hello,

I can say from past experience that it was awesome. The Richard Petty Driving Experience is worth it if your a race fan. I did the ride along in 2003 during my trip and the cost for that was $95.00 if I can remember correctly. We did three laps around the track and we were doing around 145 mph. I do have to say that after doing the driving experience it was very hard to drive the rental car, I had several times when I was speeding on property, thank god I didn't get pulled over. :drevil:

I know it wouldn't be as fun as doing it at WDW, but I see that you're from Wisconsin and they do offer this at the Milwaukee Mile.

I don't think there are any doors. I think that's a safety thing for going at those speeds, if there's a crash, can't risk a door popping open. More structural integrity without doors.

Thats because where a normal car would have a door these cars have a full cage, even if there was a door you would have thick tube steel where the opening should be.

You shouldn't have that hard of a time... Granted I only weigh about 210 at 6'5 and did have a bit of a problem getting in and out but I was ok.
As for actually driving... I had a blast. Only complaint was that it went by entirely too fast... I think I did 4 laps and it felt like 2. There isn't much room to really get the car moving so surprisingly enough I believe the average speed around the entire track is typically between 70-90 depending on the driver with top speeds of about 130 even though the car feels like a complete monster!!. I was very surprised at this seeing that I was riding the escort driver so close he had to tell me to back off of him 3 times. :king:

Thats a shame that you only get a few laps when you can take a race prepped car with skip barber's school and have real instruction instead of "turn left, go straight, turn left" rinse repeat. Those schools are usually around $1,000 but there are much much cheaper ones with tons of seat time.

If I take my personal car out on a real road course and it costs me 50-100 for an entire day of racing but the downside to that is when my rotors start to glow red that means i have to buy new ones. :(

Turn on those red and blues hit the siren and hang on! I mean only for official duties that is:lookaroun

HAHA Funny you mention that cause my buddy used to have a car that we equiped with strobes in the headlights and an actual police siren and used to use it every now and then... Good times!!
