PETA wants SeaWorld charged for death
Apr 20, 2010

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, wants criminal charges filed against SeaWorld regarding the recent death of a trainer. Dawn Brancheau, 40, was killed Feb. 24 after she was pulled underwater by Tilikum, one of the park's killer whales. PETA is campaigning for the Orange County prosecutors to consider manslaughter charges against the theme park. According to the Orlando Sentinel, the Orange County Sheriff's Office is not currently pursuing a criminal case in the tragedy.

Since the incident, Tilikum is no longer performing in shows at SeaWorld and their trainers do not enter the water with the other whales.

why not put the whale on trial also

How does PETA even exist anymore? Maybe I am just looking through rose colored glasses but I remember a time where PETA actually had a real voice and made a difference for animal welfare. Now they just seam like your typical group of insane zealots that do more harm than good for their cause.

....I stopped listening to them when they wanted to change ben and jerry's ice cream milk to breast milk. :hurl:

Things happen. It was a tragic accident and PETA should go fight battles which are more important, because there are 1000 more than this.

Well I agree that Sea World was negligant for allowing trainers to interact with a whale that had previously killed 2 other people. I believe there’s a huge risk to humans that work with wild animals are forced to live in captivity and perform tricks on demand. They need to stop forcing animals to live in captivity unless they are going to give them truely natural-like habitats. Peta is just trying to stop this from happening again.

PETA's agenda is to further PETA. That is all.
