Penny Arcade Question

Anyone know if the vintage arcade games that were in the Main St. Penny Arcade are still owned by WDW? Just holding out hope that one day they may come to their senses and re-open it. Even if it is smaller footprint than the previous one.

From my understanding, several of the "games" moved to the Main Street train station. Perhaps the rest of them are still in storage otherwise they are probably sold off.

I doubt that the Penny Arcade will re-open in its past incarnation. Even Disneyland's Penny Arcade gave up more space for merchandising in its past refurb, which leads me to believe that the powers-that-be are loathe to surrender more retail space for the sake of aesthetics and nostalgia.

I've also noticed this happening in the Tomorrowland Light & Power Co as more retail has taken space right as you exit from Space Mountain. I do believe it's the only place in MK that is an actual Arcade.

Honestly I think Arcades have now become obsolete with just about everyone owning a home gaming system (Wii, Xbox and whatever else they are called). I think its time that the Mouse takes the opportunity and either retheme it or use the space for a small distraction attraction like a virtual Tron ride like Sum of all thrills or Cyber Space Mt.

But then again with Wreck it Ralph coming out soon who knows? Maybe there will be a new growing interest in Arcades around the country!

They did. There are three of them up there, as I recall.

 Can we have this now, Disney?!

Also I feel it's one thing to own a modern game system and another to see some vintage thing you couldn't find anywhere else (like early 1900s Penny stuff), or something elaborate like the Frontierland Shootin' Arcade. Those should be the "Disney" type aracdes in the parks (the hotel ones serve a different purpose, so they should laregly remain the same).

The DL ones were always broken when I was a kid. Put in a penny and only like 1/3 of them ever worked.

My kids have no interest in it, so I have not bothered to try since the 90s.

Definitely have seen some in the Boardwalk area... On The Main Street Train station... and may still be one in the prop house on the backlot tour. I'd really love to see the arcade come back, but probably not possible with the Emporium. Maybe on the other side of the street... or at the end of Center Street?

I own most of the old baseball, and rifle games from the Penney Arcade. They are alive and well, and operating in my Retro Arcade in Wildwood, NJ. It was my privilege to have worked for Main Street Operations when the Penny Arcade was still open, and it was my desire to preserve what I could. Disney still operated 1 or 2 at Casey's
See, now that's how to resurrect a thread!

If you happen to have any pictures, we'd be much obliged. :)

I'm not quite sure what the problem was there. Here are instructions on how to attach photos.

Very good !!! Almost perfect !

I thought the Walt Disney Story shots would fool most; the beautiful character mural was still covered by a false wall from the conversion to the Epcot Preview Center, which was at the Disney Story location a few years prior.

Later, the false wall was removed to again expose the Character Mural !

The answer for the shot at Casey's Corner is technically correct, however, Casey's Corner had not been created at this point, and it was still Refreshment Corner, aka, Coke Corner....

And you got fooled on the guess of the parade hub.....

Guess that one again !!!!
That's not the hub? Looks like you are standing behind the stage in front of the Castle, with the camera facing the hub...

If that's not it...color me fooled as well!

Great pictures too! It is so nice to see those old games I enjoyed (and begged my grandfather for change) playing as a kid!

I was a complete sucker for the Walt Disney Story, either as that or as the EPCOT Preview Center. :)

'Casey's Corner' within apostrophes, to denote it is the building that currently houses Casey's. ;)

The hub has got me fooled if that isn't the hub. I think I see the distinctive hub trees (now long gone, grrr) and popcorn stand, and probably the castle ramps. I guessed parade instead of stage show from the way the audience is positioned.

Good to know. That's where I pegged you at. As EmpressLilly said, the trees. Also, the crowds. Oh, and the dancing guy sortof gave away the stage! <grin>

Also, I still think they use those exact same stanchions to rope that area off...either that or they burned a hole in my memory!
