Penny Arcade machines

Hello,

I was wondering what games and other machines are still scattered around MK from the old Penny Arcade. I know that I have seen in the past a few of the mutoscopes in the Main Street train station. Are they still there? I always loved the penny arcade and was upset when it was replaced by the every growing Emporium but my interest is even greater of late as I have recently restored 2 antique pinball machines from the 1930s. I would love to get another look at some of the old machines if they are still around.

These are the two machines I restored. Hoping to add to my collection in the future.

Nice work on the restoration. I would love to play one of those although I'm no Pinball Wizard...

I would take one of those in my house over an Xbox any day of the week.

There are I believe 2 or 3 Penny machines near the Boardwalk resorts lobby bathrooms, they're the type that you can view a little short.

Thanks all. I really enjoy them and happy to have them.

I agree on the xbox statement. I do like video games though not played in a long long time. I do have an original xbox and we have a wii, both which have not been played in ages. I have the 2 pinball machines both which are nickel machines from 1934, though both had options for penny slides instead of the nickel slides. I also have some Japanese pachinko machines that I have restored/restoring that range between 40 and 45 years old. The pinball machines are much different than modern machines, no flippers at all. It was all done by skill of how much you pull on the plunger and nudging the machine (but not enough to knock the ball off of the tilt pedestal). They were more like gambling machines as a lot of it was luck as well.

If you want to see one of the pinball machines in action to see how it works, I did make a video of it, it is a few posts down on my blog about it's restoration. http://1934signal.blogspot.com/

The other machine I am nearly done restoring, just need to do the instruction card and cost card as well as the lock for the coin door. There are some restoration pictures and info here: http://1934super8.blogspot.com/

I hope to get more older machines in the future if I can find them or afford them. I really want to look at the mutoscopes at the train station/boardwalk. Those viewers if I remember were all at the front section of the penny arcade on main street and then towards the back they had games and things like the fortune teller. The fortune teller may have been more towards the front, I cannot remember. If anybody knows where there might be some pictures of the arcade inside, I would love to see them.

Thanks again,
Mike

I was at Boardwalk last week, walking behind a family leaving and the Bell Services guy helping them with their luggage told the boy with them to try them and he could see a movie. He started to crank it, but his family called to him. I never tried them. I always seemed to be in a hurry to to make a Fast Pass. I wonder if they have been fixed?

Thanks for that post link, it was an interesting read. According to the last few comments from readers it looks like they are working now. I am going to try to walk over there one day next week and check them out.

I miss those old games. I'm a big video gamer, but in the last few years have developed a passion for pinballs. I always look for them wherever I travel. Disney has quite a few of the newer tables scattered throughout it's World.

In fact, for me, Disney Quest's only redeeming quality is it's collection of retro video games and pinball machines. Just wish they had some of the older electro-mechanical ones, as those are of primary interest to me.

I will eventually own at least one, but for now the conquest has eluded me....but someday. Thanks for showing those old 1934's. Great condition....you did a good job there.

Nice collection! The only ones I can think of are at the train station as you already know.
Beautiful restoration work on the machines. I love the look of the old ones. My FIL used to collect antique pinball & slot machines. Last year I couldnt get the ones at the train station to work. Probably have been mishandled by guests and with the young crowd being interested only in the video games, its not worth Disneys time to keep them operating. Now they just sit there as interesting background props... at least they are still there.

Thanks again. I am happy with how they came out. They were in very poor shape before restoring. The Bally Signal which was the one that had been in my family had rust all over all the metal parts from sitting in the basement for several if decades and survived several floods. The Stoner Super-8 had been stored where the play field had gotten wet and was then all dried out. When I pulled the pins to clean and finish the play field they just came out with no effort at all from the wood drying out and shrinking. I was surprised it came out as nice as it did. Both of them are similar in the way they work. There are alleys they balls can enter where they get stopped at the top which is the lowest scoring option on the alley. If a ball enters a particular hole it will hit a switch under the play field and move the ball in the alley to the next scoring position. The super-8 works by kicking the balls forward. The signal had little gates reminiscent of old fashioned railroad gates and they lift and the balls roll to the next scoring position. Really neat. They both use glass marbles rather than steel balls. The solenoids were not powerful enough for steel balls. Electric in pinball was new only being introduced the year prior. Shortly after they produced more powerful solenoids and started putting steel balls back in the machines. I would like to find a fully mechanical one next if I am lucky enough.

I hope they have fixed the equipment at the train station. I will check when I get there. Doubtful but I hope they have.

Thanks again,
Mike

These machines have not worked for a few years :(

Well that is unfortunate! Personally I think the Mouse is missing an opportunity here where they could have an actual Penny Arcade located on the Boardwalk possible where the Yard Arcade is, themed to the era of the resort! Honestly I think it would be a hit!

Well, I just got back and did not get over to the Boardwalk but sadly the ones I tried in the train station did not work. They were plugged in and lit up but nothing happened when you put a coin in and turned the cranks. Physically they still looked good but sadly not working...
