Payment Plans

Pretty new to planning trips and the first one we did with the help of a travel agent. Is there any way for us to plan our own trip and make payments against it versus having to pay it in one shot?

Thanks!

Oooh, thanks! Ok, total newbie question -- how do I get it set up? :) Thanks so much!

You need an MDE account (My Disney Experience) if you don't already have one.
Go to https://disneyworld.disney.go.com and look for the blue Mickey ears at the top.

When you book through Disney, your reservation will link to MDE.

From then it's all plain sailing. You can call and get help with your booking, or use the chat feature.

Take some time to find out how MDE works. It's where you make FPs, and any ADRs will link there too.

You can add your family and friends travelling with you, if they don't want their own account (if they might do their own thing and want to make FPs for themselves it's easier if they do imo). Or link to them if they do have their own account. It's better to decide that before you start.

We have a Disney VISA that we use to buy Disney gift cards at Krogers (or other outlets ex. Target). We earn fuel points and also Disney points on credit card. Use the gift cards to pay down on the MDE and then use Disney Rewards Card on the trip.
The Disney VISA is a mediocre rewards card. Even with the Premier version, you get 2% back on some categories but only 1% back on everything else and you can ONLY use the rewards at Disney. The Citi Double Cash card pays 2% on everything, and it's actual cash back, which you can use to buy whatever you want, including a Disney gift card. See also: BofA Cash Rewards (3% on gas), AAA Member Rewards (3% on travel), and American Express Blue Cash Preferred (6% on groceries).

If it works for you, cheers. But it's a poor product to recommend to others.

Like @tractor tipper , we buy gift cards at Kroger and earn fuel points (though I don't use a credit card to do it). When I get a gift card, I call in to Disney and pay off that balance. I've paid as little as $25 or as much as $350 in one sitting. As long as you pay it all by the due date (listed on your My Disney Experience page), you'll be fine. Good luck!

I’m going to add the Citi ThankYou Premier to this list.

When you book you will pay a $200 deposit (unless this has changed in the past year). You then have up until (I think) 45 days before your trip to pay it in full. We will usually book as soon as rates are released, pay the deposit, and then just pay a few hundred a month. I use my Target Redcard to buy the Disney giftcard and save 5%. Saves you abour $250 on a $5k vacation.

Good card if you like to use one card for everything. I think you can cobble together the same benefits with no annual fee if you're willing to use a different card depending on the category.

Good signup bonus too, as good as any I've seen besides the Chase Sapphire Preferred.

As everyone has stated, you can make payments on it whenever you like. However I would not recommend paying it off in full till 30 days before as they very well could put discounts out for the dates of your trip during that period. Hope this helps.

We buy gift cards at Target with our debit card. We have a separate account and whenever we are going we just transfer the money to cover the gift cards. We save 5% using our Target card. Sam's Club also sells discounted Disney gift cards. Then I just transfer up to a $1,000 on one gift card and pay my trip in full before 30 days. This worked for us last year and we also saved money buying the gift cards.

Sam's Club also has the $500 egift cards which are super easy to purchase and use. You buy it online, get it a little while later, and then copy and paste the information in the MDE app. Super fast and easy, and no actual gift card to keep up with. We did that when paying off our upcoming cruise.
