Paying upfront for reservations?

I've seen multiple comments and the such about having to give credit card information or even paying when you make the reservation. However, I made two reservations earlier this week, one for Teppan Edo, and I didn't have to give my credit card information, just my name and my phone number. Is this standard? Which restaurants require CC info?

The only restaurant that required credit card info when I made my dining reservations was the princess breakfast at Epcot, didn't need it for Rainforest Cafe or Crystal Palace. Guessing they require more info for the higher priced and more popular restaurants.

I can only list a few out of experience but I know the prepaid are Hoop Dee Doo, Cinderella's Royal Table and the Luau at the Poly.

For putting a credit card down I know that you have to put one down at Chef Mickey's, 1900 Park Fair, and California Grill.

The best way to assume you are going to have to prepay is if it is prix fixe menu that has a show or character dinning. It will need a credit card put down if it is a dinning experience that is highly sought after that also has a history of people canceling last minute such as Character Dinning or Premium Dinning Experiences that are not Prix Fixe. Disney will tell you before you make the reservation.

If it is prepay they will charge the entire amount on the card at the time of booking. If it is only a credit card on file they will not charge it until you either cancel with less than 24 hours or are a no show. If you are a no call no show or cancel in less than 24 hours it is a 10 dollar charge per a person.

We had to provide credit card info on our last trip for a reservation for a meal at California Grill, which is NOT prix fixe. We were not charged since we kept the reservation the credit card was used to hold. We used a different card to pay for the meal.

The policy of having to give a credit card number applies to restaurants that have a character meal at some point during the day (Ex: 'Ohana has a character meal but a credit card is required when booking any meal), signature restaurants, and dinner shows.

The following places require a credit card guarantee, but you are not charged at the time of booking. Your card will be charged $10 if you fail to cancel your reservation within 24 hours or do not show up:

• 1900 Park Fare
• Akershus Royal Banquet Hall
• Cape May Café
• Chef Mickey’s
• The Crystal Palace
• The Garden Grill
• Hollywood & Vine
• ‘Ohana
• Tusker House Restaurant
• Artist Point
• California Grill
• Cítricos
• Flying Fish Café
• Jiko – The Cooking Place
• Le Cellier Steakhouse
• Narcoossee’s
• The Hollywood Brown Derby
• Victoria & Albert’s – ($25 per person charge for cancellations within the time window)
• Yachtsman Steakhouse

The following places require prepayment and your card will be charged at the time of booking:

• Cinderella’s Royal Table
• Disney’s Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show
• Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue
• Mickey’s Backyard BBQ

Great information. It's nice to see this broken out into a list like this.

How does this impact your dining plan? The "Royal Table" is covered by the Dining plan (2 meals I get that) but if I am paying already before booking the dining which I need for financial reasons to do sooner to our trip not now, will I get reimbursed/credited?

I keep finding new places that CC info. I just made a dinner ADR for Le Cellier and they asked for my CC info. I have not made an ADR for Le Cellier since it turned Signature. So now they need the info. So this trip, I needed to give CC info for Brown Derby/Fantasmic, CRT, Crystal Palace, and Le Cellier.

This is a perfect way for Disney to get extra gravy money for people who make reservations and dont use it. I just came back from WDW on Monday night. There is no walk ups allowed, but they dont express that when you looking for info on restaurants. (ITS A VERY RARE THING )
I also went too the French restaurant on Saturday night and a couple SKIPPED OUT ON PAYING THE BILL. We saw a waiter run out of the rest and look for them. As soon as we saw this we knew something was wrong. We asked our waiter what happend and he told us. He said these things do happen. The waiter never say them again, and he was out a tip and money for the restaurant. All the years I have gone to disney I could not believe it happend. After seeing that I dont blame any rest asking for a credit card up front. THE FOOD AND SERVICE WAS GREAT.............

That's crazy! I can't believe someone would do that. I had no issue putting the cc down. They don't charge it so I don't mind. I always cancel my ADR's if I know I am not going to use them.

I just wanted to add that the Flying Fish Chef's Wine Tasting Dinner also requires prepayment.

I expect to read about situations like this...just not at WDW. Is it my imagination or has there been an uptick in crime at WDW this year?

Unfortunately it happens more than you think. We happened to see a server at 50's Prime Time crying as she she was going into the kitchen. Apparently she had a group of 12 people that skipped out on the bill and she was worried she'd have to pay it.

I used to work on the merch cart in Canada and one of the waitstaff from Le Cellier radioed me to say that a family of 6 just left without paying. They knew I have no problem walking up to them and "reminding" them that they "forgot" to pay their bill. They had almost made it to the UK before I caught up with them and I overheard the wife saying how "bad" they were and giggling about getting away with it.

I made sure to "remind" them very loudly so everyone around them could hear then I put a BOLO out in case they tried it at another restaurant later.
