Pay for Photo With Mickey? What the What?

Since this area is devoted to RUMORS and news, I've gotta run this third-hand info up the flagpole and y'all tell me what is real.

My sister is at WDW right now taking her 2 little ones for their first EXPERIENCE. She had them at EPCOT (Center) on Sunday and a bunch of characters arrived via some mode of transportation. (I was told train, but that doesn't sound right, and that detail is not vital to where I am going here)

My little niece is having a blast, hugging and lovin' on all these characters and getting her picture taken with each in turn, but then here is THE RUMOR:

Sis goes to have little niece get photo with Mickey and is told there will be a charge. Same was reportedly true for Donald.

Well, I NEVER!

I'll get the straight scoop when she gets back tomorrow, but can this be possible?

"Take all the pictures you want with Chip and Dale, lady, but if you want the big cheese, that will be $5 Dizney Dollars."

Say it ain't so!!!

It was probably just that there would be a charge if the Disney photogrpher took the picture. You can then go preview the picture and purchase it if you like it.

Yeah, it has to be that. I just had my photo taken with Donald (and at EPCOT as well) two weeks ago and didn't have to pay anything. Was with my own camera and my friend taking the pic though.

Glad to hear we haven't gotten to the point where it costs extra $$$ to have a picture with Mickey when it is your own camera, but there is still more to this story.

It is not like my sis is a first timer to WDW and she was taking pictures with her own camera of her children with the other characters. It was only when kiddies cozied up to MM &/or DD that the $$$ issue came up!

Is it possible that, at certain times now or in certain areas, Mickey can only be photographed by a Diz cast member a la Santa Claus at the local mall with your kiddie on his lap? PERISH THE THOUGHT!

I'll update this when I get better info from talking directly with sis.

In the meantime, if nobody else has experienced a similar situation, I'll presume a missed communication or misunderstanding by sis in this instance.

They have Disney photographers take "professional" pictures of you with Mickey. These can later be picked up and purchased (like ride photos). However, all pictuers you take with your own camera are absolutely free.

P.S. A train in EPCOT......the only train in EPCOT is the miniature one in Germany!:hammer:

uhh... no

that was more than definitely a miscommunication, or if it was at a restaurant with a character meal, there is a $5 entertainment charge for all guests in the party that are not eating.

Yeah, I agree. What train? I have seen the double decker bus come around the lake and stop off with a load of characters, though.

If a Cast Member was there taking pictures for sale and people were lining up for the CM photos of their family with Mickey & Donald, that would probably explain a possible misperception that one would HAVE to use the CM service for such a photo.

Thanks to all for your input and insight!

Other than the instance that Rob posted, i've never seen the CM photographers and Character Greetings done in the same vicinity, much less as a coordinated effort to make you pay for the pics instead of take your own.

I usually just see the photographers at park entrances or land entrances pandering group or couple photos to guests in front of good backdrops.

If Comcast would have bought Disney they would be signing you up for Digital Cable too...

There was once a place at Downtown Disney where you could have a sitting with Mickey and have your picture taken with him. If you choose any of the photgraphs taken, then of course you needed to pay for them. Perhaps that may be the case when your sister said she "needed to pay for them".

We ended up buying a package including a watch with the face being a photo of our lil' guy with the Mouse.

There is usualy a Disney photographer with que line character greetings, ie: Boat Dock at AK, Toy Story at MGM.

Now as a Greeter I can tell you that I've heard nothing of being charged for the photo.. After all, are they going to carry a cash register wioth them? The Disney Characters on Holiday (the double decker bus) Has a couple photographers.. and they do the same thing as the rest.. hand out a ticket for you to be able to go and preview it no strings attached. And Greeters are almost always around photographers... A couple examples would be in Toontown in the Hall of Fame Tent, the Judge's Tent.. and over in Disney MGM where you can meet Mickey in the Sorcerer's Apprentice outfit. Oh and Buzz and Woody. so it is quite common to have photographers and greeters in the same vicinity!

No, there isn't a charge to have your picture taken with Mickey or Donald...there is usually a CM with a camera with Mickey, that if you want a profession picture of Mickey, than you can pay for one...but we didn't.

Someone pulled your chain. :) You can pay for a picture with Mickey at Mickey's Toontown Fair, but that's the only place I can think of where you'd pay for a picture with Mickey.

on the character bus at Epcot when there's a photographer, same for Camp Minnie-Mickey at AK, and occasionally at MGM in his meet area there.

They've been putting photographers more and more in the queued meets

You can also have the Disney photographer or greeter take a picture with your camera so the entire party is in the shot. I always makes me sad when I walk the parks and see couples taking pictures of each other. I always offer to get one of both of them or all of them (for families or groups). You can always ask a CM to take one!
