How do you get to the speedway in the first place if you don't have a vehicle in WDW ? There is no Disney transportation to there is there ?

There's a speedway van/vehicle that will pick you up and drop you off at the TTC. I think you have to call and book a time or something but they do have transportation.

My father did this in 2008 and he said it was totally worth it (and he paid for it). My brother actually did one of the experiences and hasn't stopped talking about it!

I'm actually thinking about going down there myself and doing this. I have an early March trip planned...

Are their size limitations for the ride along? I assume you have to be able to go in through the window?

For the car I was in back in Indianapolis, yes. I had to climb in through the window. I imagine it's the same here. That's a good question though.

maybe it's losing popularity?
Based on the racket we heard from our balcony at WL last week, it seems to be humming along!

If anyone figures out how to sign up for this, or reserve a spot, please post. DH and I would love to do this during our March trip!

Ok, I "Ya'll" come to Atlanta, I'll spin ya around 285 for free!
Hahaha!
When I was growing up in Atlanta in the 80s we had driver's ed. during school, and our final exam was... get this.... to drive down Peachtree Industrial Blvd, successfully merge into traffic on I-285, demonstrate our ability to change lanes on the freeway, drive to the next exit (Peachtree-Dunwoody Rd, if I remember correctly), and then exit and come back around to the driver's ed. facility. Shockingly, this program no longer exists.

one of the guys who worked for me did the full experience. According to him, it was worth every penny.

Do you have to make a reservation for this ahead of time, or can you just show up at the Speedway?

For ride alongs, you cannot make a reservation, they can do 50 ride alongs an hour, so guests just show up and wait for the next available ride along.

Love and I and Love's brother are definitely going to try this. Sounds like a fun, unique thing to do. Go Passholder perks!

No kidding! What about the poor instructors?
At least 3 (possibly 5) high schools participated in the program... so during the mid-80s there were literally hundreds of 15 year olds zooming down that section of I-285 every few months, along with panicky instructors who had their left feet hovering over the special extra brake on the passenger side of their cars! Ah, memories!

Well, I looked it up on the passholder section of the disney website, and it seems like you just show up; there was no phone number or anything. It just said that passholders needed to come to the track and show their pass. shrug.

I would get there early in the day, though, as I would imagine the wait could get long.

You just show up and they fit you in during the experiences that they are doing. You do need to book the transportation however. If you're using Disney transportation you need to call and get a time for pick up at the TTC!

Edit - ignore that! My father said you can just show up at the TTC and wait for a vehicle to show up. They come about every 15 mins. You have to go over by the kennel and wait there.
