"Partners" Statue observation

Hi all,

I was in work this morning, and set up a new pc screen wallpaper of the "Partners" statue infront of the castle and noticed something..

Does anyone else think that is odd that Walt is seen to be pointing? I thought that it was a major no-no for CM's to point? (using a finger). So why did they not sculpt Walt performing the correct pointing gesture with the hand upturned??

Honestly I think the Disney CM "two finger" point and the guesture hand that you are talking about didn't really develop until the late 80's early 90's.

Good point, but Raven is correct the two finger point did not evolve until much later in "Disney history". As the parks became more and more world renowned, the 2 finger point was incorporated to be sensitive to others cultures.

Yes, Political Correctness was not around when the statue was cast. There has been alot of chages due to PC, PotC for example. Country Bears for an extreme example:ROFLOL: . I found the the funniest thing about the statue is the "Excited Walt" (kind of like a Hidden Mickey) when viewed from an elevated angle from Walt's right hand side.:lookaroun :lookaroun

Maybe they can weld a second finger next to the one there already!

You can tell them that's where Mickey's missing finger went! :ROFLOL:

Found this on the WDW Picture of the Day thread.
Thanks to 'forbidden donut' for the picture.

I have this as my desktop and I think he sorta has a "lazy" two finger point going on. His middle finger is slightly out.

Hahaha..whaaaat? I have been there umpteen times and never staggered upon this, I would assume its because I never look. Hmmm...as odd as I feel typing this, I'm gonna have to check that out next time.

Actually, there is a story to the statue. If you go on the "Key's to the Kingdom" tour, they go into a beautiful story about the statues. The reason Walt is pointing, is he is telling Mickey to go to his brother Roy (who is usually seated in the garden in front of the railroad station). I'm trying to recall the exact reason... I believe it's so Roy and Minnie are never alone and that he will always be with them. It's really touching. The artist did the pointing specifically for a certain reason. Does anyone recall the story? Once I heard the story, the two statues make sense and can even get you misty eyed.

We heard the same story when we went on the Keys to the Kingdom Tour in 2003. I agree with you. It helped me understand the meaning of the statues.

Actually when you look, Walt isn't pointing at all. It's a general hand gesture, almost a 'One day all this will be yours...' type sweeping motion.

A more "Walt"like expression would be... Soon, very soon All that will be MINE too.... :lookaroun
