Does any one know how many spaces this is adding?
True, I just think it would help free up some room to have the garages, but I get why they aren't the preferred method. I also don't know that I necessarily would love to see a big old boxy garage in "front" of the parks either.
And very true that the load/unload in the garages would probably be a disaster, but somehow doesn't Disneyland do just fine with their parking garage?
I think the design of the disneyland garages is much more conventional in nature widing up to the top, haven't been so I've only seen it on google earth.
the design of the garages at universal seemed to work just fine when i went on a super super buys night of halloween horro nights, the main backup was at the toll plaza to pay for parking.
garages do cost tons more, and i'm sure depending on design they can be more hazardous for pedestrians.
example the garages at the new marlins park in miami, the way they were designed is TERRIBLE for all arriving at once traffic. widing up single file floor by floor. and a serious mixing of pedestrians crossing the cars widing to the top. would be very easy for a kid to get run over. and its confusing the way that some cars park angled up hill while others park angled downhill.
the garages at disney springs appear to be taking more of the universal approach, of having flat levels with ramps primarily around the outside edges. vs what i belive to be the disnyland set up. and VASTLY different and much safer and less confusing than the marlins park garages.
Haven't used them myself (always stayed walking distance when going to DLR), but I've been under the impression that the parking lots at DLR are relatively nightmares to get out of and less than ideal to get in.
I don't really see much reason to convert to a parking deck unless surface lots are simply not viable due to a need for space. The only place that has that potential issue is DHS (especially if they were to want to expand the park into some of the current parking area). Even at DHS, it might be possible to add surface lots if they are willing to convert some currently unusable wetland (which might be more costly than simply building a deck).
Also, it's worth considering that visually a parking deck is more intrusive on the parks and the ambiance. It's a minor point, but I think it has some minimal value.
It's worth noting that Disney is building parking decks at DTD. Of course, that would tend to have people coming and going at different times, so it's more viable.
DHS does have a parking garage in back for cast. so its not completely against disny prior to disney springs to build garages they just choose not to.
in most cases at disney world its really not necessary.
disney springs is diffeernt though since some people want to go for just a short time, and others stay a long time, so the traffic is much more random, and at a shopping complex theres definitely more of an expectation of being closer, and their aren't trams or anything, along with the land crunch with doubling the size
I wish they would plant some trees around the DAK lot. I know this is a stylistic choice to provide a drastic change of atmosphere entering the gates, but I never liked how barren the DAK lot looks.
that would be great it does look very bare, which is vastly differnt than the inside of the park
