Parking lot at Disney's Animal Kingdom about to expand ahead of the park's new additions

Pandora and Rivers of Light absolutely will bring more people to the park, though some of that will be shifting attendance patters from morning-to-afternoon to afternoon-to-evening. IMHO, though, I think it won't add more days to WDW for the vast majority of people, but just shift time from the other parks to DAK.
I chose to ignore the bait LOL

It's good being proactive, but I wonder why this is taking precedence over the modifications to DHS's parking (access road coming off Victory Lane) which would be potentially critical to expanding that park.

The permit for this also shows work on the adjacent lot. Maybe that existing lot was in need of a normal re-paving so they just decide to do the new one at the same time.

The Epcot Manifesto
Though garages, obviously, take up a smaller footprint and have quite a few more advantages to the huge lots, there is something to be said about the lots being much more efficient to load up and empty out. The back up at park opening in filling a garage would be huge. Cars would never wind their way up ramps, around corners and into spots, then unload with passengers, children, strollers and more without massive traffic jams behind them all.
Park closings would be just as much a horror.
Others have said it, but I agree with this. Even at the hospital we go to for some doctors appointments, it can take 30 minutes to get into a spot in the morning, due to the time it takes to wind upstairs, stopping for someone to pull into/out of a spot, etc. It drives me batty trying to get there for an appointment and sitting there just to get in, knowing I still have 5-6 floors to go before I can begin to hope for a spot.
Sure, it's Northwestern Memorial Hospital in downtown Chicago, so it does get a fair amount of traffic, but I can't imagine it gets NEAR the traffic a Disney park would get.
It's funny, when we first visited Universal and pulled in to park, my 3YO started crying "I don't WANT to go to the doctor!!!". It took us finally getting into the Citywalk area to convince her we didn't just pull into a hospital parking lot...

When the attractions and the entertainment are beyond words, it wont matter if you liked the movie or not. Guess will come.
I would say "if the attractions..." and not "when," but otherwise I agree. I've never seen Avatar and haven't the slightest interest in doing so, but if the Pandora environment looks as good as the model, and if the attractions are excellent, then I'll definitely want to spend more time in AK to see it all.

Here is my take beacuse I know Pumbas is waiting out there to hear it...

Garages can be done with pleasing aesthetics as will be seen at DS. And of course there is nothing visually intrusive about a sea of cars as far as the eye can see.

What I think would make sense is a number of garages for an upcharge and possibly AP'ers and Diamond parking. Valet parking could also be offered. That way they are revenue neutral at least and would allow for DAK to expand in the future. Also, more garages translates to less trams. Diesel is expensive and pollutes. :hungover: Garages can have solar panels. So garages can be the green option. :D

And those that are mocking the move as being overconfident, perhaps there are additions in the works that have not been announced. DAK already needs more parking on some days.

I am not sure I agree with the parking garage argument. One thing I love about disneyworld is that I do not have to touch a garage and I know that my car is "relatively" safe. Garages worry me - and I am not excited about the DS garage

I almost got run over in the DD parking lot! Parking lots scare me.

Hmmm, I wonder where WDW74 was that day? :cautious:

You only build parking garages when you have no other choice. Their only advantage over a traditional parking lot is a smaller foot print. Everything else from construction cost, maintenance, traffic flow, etc it better with a parking lot.

I understand Pandora isn't a lot of people's first choice for Animal Kingdom, and many here don't like Avatar's storyline, but it IS going to draw people. Harry Potter or possibly Star Wars levels? No, but to say people are going to ignore the land or turn their nose up at it and not visit because of it, I don't agree with that.

And besides, a well themed land and good rides, regardless of a movie's storyline, can still bring in the guests. And if Rivers of Light and the night Safari are done well, then that too will draw people and keep them around a bit longer (or have them arrive later in the day/evening).

Pandora won't be a dud like folks are hoping it to be, but it won't be some massive lines out the park entrance hit like I believe Disney wants it to be, IMO.

Leaving the theatre in downtown is a nightmare. My wife and I refer to it as Act III, because it's just as long as either act of the musical or play we've seen.

In a garage, you're unloading cars MUCH more slowly. At Disney Springs, people will continuously come and go, so not a big deal.

But at a theme park (and at the theatre, concerts, etc), there are moments where thousands leave simultaneously.
