If you're staying at a resort, or have an AP, it's free. I think it's up to $7 at the parks; I don't know if it's the same at the waterparks.

Yeah, you'll get a placard or something to lay on your dash to show the attendants and you'll buzz right through.

also, a couple of the days that we were there, my dad didn't go to the parks and just dropped us off, if you are being dropped off at the parks by someone, you can tell them at the parking gate and they will do one of two things, though I'm not sure why it isn't the same at all parks, but the end result is still that if your vehicle isn't staying in the park you don't have to pay:

1. direct your driver to drop off/pick-up area, without paying the $6 (the attendant may have just been being polite by allowing this) Animal Kingdom and MGM both did this.
or
2. tell your driver to pay the $6 and if he comes back through the gate within 1/2 hour with receipt they will give a refund. This is what they did at Epcot.

:)

maybe a new CM who didn't know? I thought it was just odd that Epcot did it differently, so I guess I wasn't sure what the actually policy was.

I was an Auto Plaza cast member a couple of years back at Animal Kingdom. Official company policy was to charge everyone going into the parking lot, even if they were dropping off. The theory was that it would be too easy for everyone to say they were dropping someone off, then park anyway. We were trained to sell them a parking ticket, then send the person entering the park to Guest Relations, which would refund the money if they felt the person was being honest. There was a big crackdown about making taxis pay for their tickets and they only dropoff. After selling a ticket to the taxi driver, we would look directly at the people in the back and tell them to either refuse to pay for the ticket themselves or to pay for it and take it with them, because the taxi driver could use it for other fares all day long.

The reason most of the auto plazas didn't charge is because it is a difficult policy to enforce and most cast members are too lazy to do it.

Rather than being difficult, the Epcot cast member was the only one doing his job.

ehh.. I still don't pay.. hehe. It just annoys me when the CM lane is the most backed up one, when resorts guests use it to bypass traffic. Some people are on deadlines, and that's very inconsiderate.

for the taxis, I recall that Disney has transportation passes that they sell to taxi/transit companies, that are displayed on the windshield of the vehicles (just like the CM stickers). They did this to replace paying for each individual parking.

How long ago did you do parking? Every parking CM i have recently asked said they don't charge for dropping off anymore. Sending them to GR seems somewhat pointless to me, since how can GR judge who is lying or not?

I was in the auto plaza at Animal Kingdom on and off from before the park opened to about a year after opening. Only the taxi companies owned by Mears had the stickers on their windows. We had to crack down on all the other random cab companies so that Disney could justify making Mears pay for the stickers.

As for sending people to Guest Relations, I was merely pointing out company policy. Most of the time, everyone (including me) ignored it and didn't charge for dropoffs. There are other, more valid, uses for this policy, however. For example, if someone is going to the park and is going to buy an annual pass that day, they are supposed to pay for parking and then present their parking ticket and new annual pass to Guest Relations for a refund. I used that one a lot.

The taxi issue was a big deal, at least back then. Some of the non-Mears taxis would try to drive through the auto plaza without stopping. If we had the time, we'd radio Security to pull them over and either collect the money or escort them off property. Animal Kingdom was also nice because the entrance road loops right back behind the auto plaza building where we could pull our truck out into the road as a barricade and give those taxis drivers a few stern words. :animwink:

and everyone wonders why there are never any parking spots at downtown disney...... AND why buses stoped direct service from DTD to the parks....
