Park Hopper or Water Park & More

All,

We will be going to Disney in 54 days. We are military so we get the special military tickets however they only come with waterpark & more or park hopper, not both. You can add the option but I don't have the funds to do it per ticket and still be comfortable with spending money. Would you recommend getting the Park Hopper option or the Waterpark & more option? My kids love Disney Quest but that may be the only time we use the Water Park & more. Thanks for your suggestions.

It will really depend on how long you are there. If you are there for 2 weeks and have a few non-park days to kill then the water park option can be worth it. If you are only there for 4 or 5 days and plan on spending them in the parks the park hopper option will be the way to go.

I'd say go with park hopper. It allows you more freedom than the Water Park pass does. I'd rather go from park to park than hit up DisneyQuest for a few hours in what amounts to a (really cool, admittedly) arcade.

It really depends on what your family thinks is more important. If its one or the other, then you might want to do the waterpark option simply because you're definitely going to the parks already; it may not be with park hopper, but you're going. And since, as you say, this might be the only time you'll do the waterparks, I would lean more towards that.

We will be going for 9 days, May 10-19 and be getting 8 day tickets.

Then the water park option might be something you want to look at. One thing about the water parks is you really need to get to them before they open. If you do this you can be, to a point, done with them in 3 or 4 hours. After that you can head back to your resort, shower, nap, etc then head out to the park in the evening. On the flip side both Animal Kingdom and The Studios can be finished by most people in less than a day. On those days you can head to Disney Quest in the evening. Depending on the ages of your kids you can also let them go solo to Disney Quest while you hit some of the restaurants, shops and entertainment in Down Town Disney.

I'd def. toss my vote in for the park hopper.

To me, the water parks are the same as we have here back home. I guess it all depends on what you have around you. We have three pretty large water parks here that have some pretty awesome attractions... but obviously, Six Flags is no Disney so I'd always go for the park hopper. This way you can spend a day at one park, then hop over to another if there is a specific firework show you'd like to see.

Water Park Option

We have four children, 8, 9, 11, and 14 and would never even consider not doing the water parks. We will be there for 7 nights around the same time as you. Two of our days are waterpark days- however on those days, we leave the water park around 2:30 or 3:00, go back to the resort and then go to a park for the evening. You do need to be a little more organized with your time each day. We have a full plan and our only doing one of the bigger parks each day. We can't wait.:sohappy:

Park Hopper DEFINITELY! Depending on the scheduled of some of the more popular activities at the parks (AM and PM extra magic hours, Main Street Electrical Parade and Fantasmic!) it may be necessary to visit more than one park in a day. Plus, I find visiting more than one park in a day more exciting.

Thanks everybody. From the sounds of this I may have to pay the extra $180 and get both. I guess this then leads to my next question. We already have our hotel and dining plan paid for. So all we should need money for is our souvenirs. We are a family of 6, 4 kids (11, 9, 9, 5). How much money should be brought to ensure enough spending money?

Spending money is all relative to what you make of your trip. That is the beautiful thing about WDW for me. There are options and features that can fit every budget. For some families, spending hundreds on makeup, hair, and dresses with princesses (no idea the name of this stuff since I am a 26 year old male with no kids) is ideal... while for some, a cheap autograph book and a pen works wonders. Many of the food options throughout the park can easily be shared, you may not be full but you will have enough to share.

My vote is for the water option. The hopper can be very taxing with kids. It takes time to go from park to park. That's time i'd rather use in the parks. The water parks are great and a lot of fun. Even if you go there for a few hours on a couple of days it is worth it. DisneyQuest is a lot of fun, too. It is spacious and has lots to do for everyone.

I was under the impression the Military Salute tickets were four day only tickets, and could not have days added to them.

Personally, I think $165 for a four day park hopper with water parks added is a fantastic deal, and having both add-ons will really help make the most out of your vacation.

I personally would get the park hopper. I have no interest in going to water parks at Disney because I have a decent one a hour away from where I live I can go to anytime. However, I wouldnt mind going to Disney Quest and the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex which are both included in the water parks and more option.

Definately the Park Hopper. MK by day, EPCOT for dinner and evening strolls. The main pools at the hotels can be just as much fun as the WP without the lines/crowds! And (gasp!) you could always visit other resort's pools, like AKL or Floridian or Yacht Club! They all have slides and waterfalls!
