That's too funny. :lol:South Park pretty much hit the nail on the head when it comes to ghost shows.

Have you ever found definitive proof paranormal activity?
This is called audio pareidolia. Our brains hard hardwired to find patterns or things we recognized in both sight and sound even when no such pattern exists. If you listen to a random sound will you will eventually hear human speech. This article has some great examples of this. The audio samples are about half way down the page. It is incredibly creepy how you will hear speech in a random sine wave.Yes and no. Yes i had caught a young voice on a EVP session before. Have i seen a apparition before.. no. Do i believe in it? yes.
The vast majority of the photos of orbs are either light from a flash reflected off of dust, rain, etc or the result of a double exposure.Same as for orbs. Now i'm not a expert on them so i can't judge on it and tell you yes it's one or no. There alot of Paranormal Investigators who believe in them and some who don't.
But i'am about to make my own team here in New Orleans. We are working name now, plus trying to get some more equipment. Once we get our name i will have a facebook page for it.

This is a pretty good article on how they happen.

What you see most ghost hunters do on TV is either anomaly hunting combined with a conformation bias and a god of the gaps fallacy to flat out fraud. "We got a spike on the EMF reader. That must be a ghost!"
This video, while rater dry, it a great example of how these shows engage in this.

In real science "I do not know" is an acceptable answer. On TV it will get your show canceled. Where most people doing stuff like this go horribly wrong is immediately go to the "It is a ghost!" card when they get something they can not explain. This is the conformation bias I spoke of earlier. If you want to do this and do serious research your best bet would be to first educate yourself on what the guys on TV do wrong....and there is plenty that they do horribly wrong. What you see on ghost hunters and other shows like it does not even come close to being science.I can't say everytime i go investigate there is something there. Some things we just can't explain.
Well, it is a bit deserved. These TV shows are so far away from being science that it is not even funny yet that masquerade as being hardcore science. The worst thing about it is so many people believe every last thing they see on those shows. They also have been know to "produce" results. It really skates the line of being flat out fraud. You know you can't believe everything that comes up on TV and that goes for anything. He really slammed this show very hard. Not saying if they are real or not.

I am just a bit bitter that crap like this sells like crazy and only serves to make people dumber but real science can barely survive on PBS.
See that is the thing. If something is real you don't need to be there. There will be tangible evidence. I have never see a panda bear but there is enough evidence to show they exist. What these guys collect is not hard evidence. They are anomalies at best. I live just a 45 minute drive from St Augustine Fl, which is billed as America's most haunted city. I have been on countless ghost tours and investigations and all I have seen are people equating every last odd thing they see and hear to a ghost. They will of course say "lets not jump to conclusions" right before they take a Grand Canyon size leap to a ghost conclusion.I'm not a huge fan of Paranormal State i do watch them, but i do like TAPS and Ghost Adventures on the travel channel. Now i was stated this years ago while doing a investigation....... I was told to debunk it before you can say it's a ghost. Always......
When they do a investigation it may take them 2 to 3 days to get something and that's "if" they do get anything. TV does alot of wonders to us. Now will shows add something to make us watch more sure they do. They have to, if not the show will be off the air. Now is Ghost real........ till you have been there and experince it then you can say.
Would like to see what he has to say about other paranormal shows, unless his pockets are deep....... :lookaroun

Sounds good. Have fun with it, just do not be afraid to make everything stand up to scrutiny. Who knows, if you do follow the scientific method to the tee you might be the guy that proves there is something while the guys at TAPS are wasting their time tying mono filament to doors.:lol:Yes i agree with ya on that. You can't say it's 100% ghost for anything that happends say as in a door creeking something like that. Now will i have my own TV show... heeeckkkk noooo. I do this for fun and passion for it. just like taking Disney vacations with the family. We learn as we go.
But like i said, until you seen it or have "hard" evidence then you can say it's paranormal. Just like the movie paranormal activity... umm nooo that is not real.
Thanks for the advice, i will keep in mind on what you said.
Neil DeGrasse Tyson is my hero!Richard, you are my hero. Science Shmience...turn on Nova and support something that isn't pablum.
Skeptic Trump cards are pretty neat. I have a quite a few links to similar sites. Let me know if you want a few.I didn't know popular scientists had their own trading cards....I'm in.
