Paradise Garden, coming soon to DCA

Why do I always feel like California Adventure is just one giant restaurant?

Probably because it has a lot of them.

Two table-service restaurants (Ariel's Grotto, Wine Country Trattoria)
Nine fast-food restaurants (Bakersfield Bakery, Burrrbank Ice Cream Parlor, Award Weiners, Cucina Cucamonga, Lucky Fortune Cookery, Boudin Cafe, Paradise Garden Grill, Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta, and Taste Pilots Grill)
Two cocktail lounges (Avalon Cove, Wine Country Terrace) and a wine bar
Plus a dozen or so snack bars, coffee bars, a corn dog stand, and some permanent food carts, and the usual roaming churro, popcorn and ice cream carts.

There's another big fast-food restaurant coming to Cars Land (Flo's V8 Cafe), plus a couple of new snack bars (Fillmore's Taste-In and Cozy Cone Motel).

It's a lot of food. Interestingly, there is only one place you can currently get a hamburger in DCA; Taste Pilot's Grill. The variety of menus at both Anaheim parks has really grown and branched out in the last few years, and the amount of cheeseburgers or chicken nuggets available has dwindled to just one or two places in each park. Interesting!

Walls are finally down around the Paradise Garden area, and it really looks great! An impressive transformation from what was here before (remember the SS Rustworthy?) The restaurants won't open until tomorrow, but here's a sneak peek of the new 900-seat outdoor dining area (pictures by MintCrocodile)

Quite the lovely area. I'll be eating there on Saturday when I'm in the parks. But what to try first...the flatbread pizza or the skewers??

I've been hearing good things about the food, which is great. I've also heard complaints about the lack of burgers. I find it so refreshing that they opted for a different menu. You can find burgers and fries anywhere. My parents were in the parks a month ago and we had a hard time finding a good place to eat because we tend to stay away from the fast food burgers, chicken nuggets, pizza, etc. I'm definitely taking them here next time.

More great pictures from Dateline Disneyland covering the first day of Paradise Garden, this past Friday, July 1st. I walked through this area on Saturday afternoon, and pictures don't quite do it justice. The extensive tree canopy in the dining area is lush, and the surfaces and fixtures and accesories all look very custom and very top-quality. The total transformation of this little corner of DCA is complete, and it's a job very well done. Bravo WDI and TDA!

Through the entry doors of Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta; American flag (with 48 stars, placing the theme after 1912) on left, vintage Italian flag on right. Neat!

The bandstand area is in a sunken part of the terrace, with a nice slate patio

The Mediterranean band Odyssey; they were playing a good version of "Volare" when I was there. (Though I prefer the Dean Martin recording, myself)

Lots of nice greenery and tilework and pots and detailing throughout. It will get lovelier as the landscaping grows and settles in, too.

^^ Fantastic night shots sponono88!

This caught my eye on Wednesday, from the front page of Miceage and the knower of all things Disneyland, Mr. Lutz himself...

Meanwhile, WDI has returned to the Paradise Garden complex to install more accesories and wire the hundreds of additional lights onto the buildings they didn't complete before the holiday. Once the electricians are gone later this week, the Custodial team will arrive to powerwash and clean the buildings and trees that are all still covered in construction dust. They got Paradise Garden open by the skin of their teeth last Friday! - Al Lutz

I noticed this past weekend that lots of lights on the buildings weren't illuminated, and there appeared to be unfinished work around the general area. You can clearly see some of the darkened strands in the pictures above, and walking through the area you can see where additional lights are intended to go. I can't wait to see the final finished product this weekend, all lit up like the sparkling jewel that Paradise Pier has become over the past two years!

Talk about a metamorphosis of one of the most maligned areas of the most maligned Disney theme park in existence. Paradise Pier has really made a complete 180 from where it was during the 2001 to 2008 era.

I'm sure there will be another round of Paradise Garden pictures by the end of this weekend.

Think for yourselfer
Man am I jealous. I was there almost exactly 1 year ago and I would have loved for this area to have existed. The landscaping, the buildings, the details, it all looks amazing.

I already knew I had to make a return trip to the west coast once DCA was completed. This just adds to the excitement.
